Annoyed With God

Is it a good idea to go to daily Mass even if you're pissed at God and have a cold heart towards Him, and definitely don't want to see Him/talk to Him?

Or would it be better for you to keep your cold-heartedness and anger at home?

Further, should you receive Holy Communion if you are angry with God? (yet in the state of grace)

yes. no. yes.

Yes, go to mass.

No to staying at home.

Yes to receiving Eucharist.

Correct?

Yes, that's what she meant.

Look at it this way: let's say you were married and you were annoyed with your husband. Would that mean you decide not to go home that night and sleep at a hotel instead?

Sure, it would be better if you didn't feel this way, but for whatever reason, you do. Being angry and irritated with God and with other people is a normal, natural part of life.

God loves you. He will still love you no matter how you feel toward Him and no matter what kind of mood you're in.

And going back to the marriage idea: staying away will never solve the cause of the pain you're experiencing. It's hard, but sometimes in order to heal, you need to sit down and talk it out. Things might not change overnight, but our relationship with God needs care just like any other healthy relationship.

Hang in there. Tell Him exactly how you feel. Be honest. That's all He wants from you.

Nihil Obstat

I might suggest that it is even more important to go to Mass and receive Communion in times like this, assuming one remains in a state of grace.

Years ago when I was going through some stuff I did not receive Communion for about 6 months. For no good reason other than I did not feel like it. It was a mistake.

Remember that there are enough graces in each host to make us all Saints. If anything can help you get past your anger towards God, it is the Holy Eucharist.

Also - and this is just a suggestion - perhaps one in such a situation might also want to go to confession even more frequently than they normally do, mortal sin or no. After all, the graces of confession protect us from falling into sin, and if a person is angry at God they are in danger of some sins more than usual.

just give up.

Can you explain this?

:)

P.s. I did go to mass and received Him. Just got home. Sat in the balcony by myself where I didn't have to put on one of those super fake smiles to others around me, especially during the silly games my parish plays during the Kiss of Peace. It was bearable.

An emphatic YES.  He's a big boy -- He can take your attitude without a problem.  I might even suggest adding an hour of adoration a week.  Shoot -- you should see how many times I've walked in with that 'tude to adoration, and even sometimes He will come through and warm up that heart a bit.

Nope nope nope nope nope nope ... nooooo.  Emphatic noooooo.  You get so many graces from attending Mass, and to not get those graces is a big mistake.  It may actually make things worse if you do stop attending Mass.

Further, should you receive Holy Communion if you are angry with God? (yet in the state of grace)

YES.  I will agree with Nihil -- it sounds like this is the time to emphasize going to confession more often, focusing on this one area (the anger with God) even if you don't reach the level of mortal sin.

The Sacraments are channels of grace.  You should avail to them both (Confession and the Eucharist) because at this time it sounds like you need the graces from both Sacraments to get through this period.

Finally -- this will pass.  And you will see that this will bring on growth in you, especially if you focus on going to Mass and Confession, and if you can even add prayer (and Adoration) that will help lots.  Even when it feels futile and fruitless.
