Anastasia13
Yes, but I am the judge of what is and isn't harmful, and have an extremely low tolerance on this subject with a very itchy ban finger. Thank you. Now I know the trick. :idea2:

He, of all, should be the best judge of what should be moderated and what should not.

Dr. Bombay
Yes, but I am the judge of what is and isn't harmful, and have an extremely low tolerance on this subject with a very itchy ban finger. I was actually thinking of more of an academic criticism, like one might find in a seminary setting. Not that there’s a huge amount of criticism of the Mass in the seminary (in my experience), but there are some issues that are occasionally raised, if not in the class room, at least among seminarians themselves. But I think your itchy finger is probably wise since I’ve seen these interwebz discussions quickly devolve into nothing but a bash fest. The Novus Ordo seems to be the bête noire of a certain type of Calathumpian Catholic and they won’t admit anything good about it which is rather a provincial view in my opinion. It’s hard to mention an objection to the Mass without sounding like one is questioning the validity of the Mass overall, even if that is not the intent. Dr. Bombay
Bambi, are you familiar with Laszlo Dobszay's two books? I've heard of them but not read them. I think Mosebach's Heresy of Formlessness is a pretty sensible critique. He seems to write with a sense of sadness of what was so cavalierly tossed away, rather than from anger, as so many other Trads do.

Restoration and Organic Development of the Roman Rite completely changed the way I look at the whole debate. In comparison I actually found Heresy of Formlessness a little disappointing. It is an ok book, for sure. There is not anything I dislike about it. But reading that right after Restoration, it felt especially non-scholarly and sort of directionless. Basically, I should have read Heresy of Formlessness right after I read A Bitter Trial, then read Restoration and Organic Development. :P

Nihil Obstat
$35 and no Kindle edition? Hmmm. Going to wait on that one I'm afraid. I think I got mine on sale. But a week or two ago I purchased a second copy for Katy and me to give as a gift to the priest who is celebrating our Nuptial Mass. :) He learned the traditional Mass so that he could do it. I thought about giving him a copy of the Ottaviani Intervention, but I decided that might be a bit provocative. :|
