cappie
In Australia we tend to be a little more relaxed in regards to where a person may marry. If someone goes to a church on a regular basis and participates in the life of that community moreso than the place where they live geographically then there is no trouble getting married in that church. The Code of Code of Canon Law states: Can. 515 §1 A parish is a certain community of Christ's faithful stably established within a particular Church, whose pastoral care, under the authority of the diocesan Bishop, is entrusted to a parish priest as its proper pastor. Vatican II shifted the overall juridical emphasis from the previous territorial basis of a parish to the people who constitute the parish community especially centered around the Eucharist. I know that there is great store put in being registered in a parish in the US but not here in Australia, so my advice may be incorrect for you
