Priests Demand Pelosi Renounce Catholicism After Abortion Is €œsacred

Don't mean to be picky, and being Australian I don't get the whole God Bless America thing but:

You have heard that it was said, “You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.” But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be children of your Father in heaven; for he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. . . . Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect. (Matthew 5:43-48, NRSV)

We have to be the best we can be :saint2:

Don't misunderstand me, I'm not saying that I don't love my neighbor (or at least I try to love them) but it's immensely frustrating to see our society invoking blessings when as a whole, we should be repenting.  We are always unworthy but this nation isn't even trying.  This is a nation that has had battles over allowing the pledge of allegiance to contain "God" and yet it is the same nation that is asking Him to bless us???  Just frustrating.

I've felt this way for a really long time. When I see bumper stickers that say 'God Bless America' I think "why should He? What makes us deserving of His blessing?" We are an increasingly selfish, secular society that rejects His profound truths. Promoting abortion, gay marriage, and materialism at every turn...

Except for the fact that I have atheist friends who are undeserving of God's blessing and who aren't trying to be good people in His eyes, but I would still pray that God bless them. Just because of who they are and the fact that God loves them. Conversion of the heart can be considered a blessing, can it not? Therefore, let us pray for that sort of blessing for America. :amen:

You have a fair point  :saint2:

For that kind of blessing, I would definitely agree.  I just don't think that's what most people mean when they say God Bless America.  Of course, I am not qualified to judge someone else's intentions so I suppose it's a moot point.

But back to the original topic, it seems as though Nancy Pelosi should absolutely be excommunicated.

From the catechism:

2268 The fifth commandment forbids direct and intentional killing as gravely sinful. The murderer and those who cooperate voluntarily in murder commit a sin that cries out to heaven for vengeance.69

Infanticide,70 fratricide, parricide, and the murder of a spouse are especially grave crimes by reason of the natural bonds which they break. Concern for eugenics or public health cannot justify any murder, even if commanded by public authority.

2269 The fifth commandment forbids doing anything with the intention of indirectly bringing about a person's death. The moral law prohibits exposing someone to mortal danger without grave reason, as well as refusing assistance to a person in danger.

The acceptance by human society of murderous famines, without efforts to remedy them, is a scandalous injustice and a grave offense. Those whose usurious and avaricious dealings lead to the hunger and death of their brethren in the human family indirectly commit homicide, which is imputable to them.71

Just my thoughts.

The way I see it, is if someone asks God for a blessing, He's gonna know which type is best for the person better than they will themselves ;)
Like, sometimes we ask for things, but those things aren't in God's plan for us.  So He sees our intentions, but He does what He knows is best anyway.

I kinda see it like that. Where people are saying "God Bless America," and God is saying, "Well, it's perhaps not the kind of blessing you wanted, but I'm going to give you the kind of blessing you need." Make sense? :)
