Slappo
I recently served on jury duty for a 4 week 1 day murder2/manslaughter trial regarding the death of a 4mo old child. Maybe I'll post more details about it later, but I don't really want to think about it anymore at least for now. We found the defendant guilty of manslaughter, but not guilty of murder 2. The baby was allegedly shaken to death by the defendant. I say allegedly because the actual mechanism and circumstances surrounding the death are still somewhat of a mystery, but the jury was able to conclude with the evidence that regardless of if it was shaking or something else, death was caused by the reckless actions of the defendant. CatherineM
I get called, but they never let me serve when they find out I used to be a lawyer.
OnlySunshine
Yikes, I don't think I'd want to serve on a jury in that situation. I got picked for jury duty in March for the very first time. At the time, however, I did not have transportation to the courthouse and I am a student so I was able to get out of it. If I ever get picked again and am obligated to serve, I hope it's only for a minor violation such as a traffic violation or some misdemeanor. Basilisa Marie
Ugh, as a father, that's gotta be rough. :(
homeschoolmom
That would be very difficult to sit through. :( I was called up for jury duty 10 years ago. I was pooled for a mesothelioma case. We had to fill out a huge-long questionnaire before leaving for the day. When we returned the next day, it had been settled and we were done. I was glad because I was 7 months pregnant with two little kids at home at the time, but I would gladly serve today. A child's death case would be really rough.
