Anastasia13
I'd rather they dislike him yet convert anyway than like him and stay where they are.
Basilisa Marie
This thread is a great example of the quote, "The biggest thing that discourages Catholics from embracing tradition is traditionalists." I just made up that quote, so I guess I just quoted myself in the present tense. Seriously. It seems like it's always about how terribly bad Catholics everyone else is. Though the ladies seem to do a good job of getting excited about things like chapel veils. :hehe2:
Basilisa Marie
I'd rather they dislike him yet convert anyway than like him and stay where they are. I don't think anyone in this thread thinks it's better for people to like the pope and not convert than not like the pope and convert. Seriously. Why does everything have to turn into a giant grump fest every single time something about Pope Francis is mentioned?

Apotheoun
The prophets of the Old Testament were not liked, as Christ Himself tells us in the Gospel, and yet they were still prophets. Being liked is irrelevant, which is what sacred scripture means when it says that God is not a respecter of persons.
Apotheoun
I will admit quite openly that I did not like the man who was the bishop of Oakland when I converted to Catholicism back in 1988, because he did not consistently teach the truth on moral issues and he allowed multiple liturgical abuses throughout the diocese, but I prayed for him even though I did not like him. After all, he was still the bishop of Oakland even though he was a morally and doctrinally weak man.
Basilisa Marie
For other people, it's important to have positive feelings towards one's religious leaders. The pope might be so popular with Evangelicals because he's a charismatic leader, and Evangelicals are usually very attracted to charismatic leaders. The passions ebb and flow, and it is never wise to build a structure on sand.
PhuturePriest
Well there is the whole Pauline Missal thing. . . False. The Pauline Missal is the Liturgy, not a tradition. Pwned.
Apotheoun
Frustration does come off as anger via the internet. But anger does come when people are talking as if Francis is actually attempting to garner the favor of Evangelicals, which is what Apo and L&T were doing. I never said that Pope Francis is trying to garner favor with Evangelicals; instead, I simply said that it is irrelevant whether Protestants like the pope or not. Nihil Obstat
False. The Pauline Missal is the Liturgy, not a tradition. Pwned. This sounds like a highly artificial distinction to me. I feel obligated to counter-pwn you. The Liturgy is living Tradition.
dUSt
It's painfully obvious that some people in this thread place no importance on being liked.

cappie
Sorry I posted the article, I just thought it was something positive......"As evangelicals move ahead, I pray we would not be afraid to be led by a servant like Pope Francis. For if we cannot be led by a servant, how can we be led by Jesus?"
Nihil Obstat
Well I, for one, hope that all the Protestants like Pope Francis so much that every single one of them converts and embraces the fullness of Truth that is the Catholic Church. :detective:
