photosynthesis
Would eating red meat more then once or twice a week be gluttony ? No one should be eating it more then twice a week anyways...Its a killer....What's worse ? Eating red meat everyday or masturbation ? The Church doesn't have any restrictions on eating meat other than abstaining from it on Fridays. If you have any additional questions, you should probably ask a spiritual director. To me there is nothing wrong with eating red meat... although I remember in the 90's people thought it was bad because it was higher in fat than say, boneless skinless chicken breast. There are so many different approaches to diet and weight loss, and it varies so much depending on whose advice you're following and what decade you're in. So it's up to you to use your judgment. Masturbation would definitely be worse than eating red meat every day because masturbation is objectively sinful, whereas eating red meat every day is not actually a sin--except on Fridays
Guest
Eating red meat more then once or twice a week is horrible for your health...Its a scientific fact...Masturbation is not bad for your health...It can actually be beneficial...As a catholic I do follow the Churches teaching and confess masturbationon though...But health wise eating red meat everyday is 100 percent worse... The Church is not a health club, though. We are talking about morality.

jazzytakara
I think one of the Pope's recent tweets sheds light on an act of gluttony and greed in the mortal sense: "Consumerism has accustomed us to waste. But throwing food away is like stealing it from the poor and hungry." So Gluttony can be mortal when we are taking in more food than we need and willfully depriving the poor from the food we steal and more than likely may waste. For instance, it is both greedy and gluttonous to take the last of something in a grocery store just because you don't want anyone to enjoy it but you. If you genuinely need the last item, then sure, but to take it to eat when you do not need it, but merely wish to have it, is wrong. So eating and drinking excess food and knowingly take this excess from someone who does not have food would be a mortal sin. Kind of like people who go to soup kitchens because they want to eat free food or don't think homeless deserve the food more than they do, when they have the means to provide their own meals, that would be a mortal sin involving eating an excess and depriving someone who has no other means for sustenance. Commit yourself to putting that completely behind you. Do not get complacent. You owe it to yourself. Edited June 14, 2013 by Nihil Obstat
