WillT
I was a senior in high school and 18, which was normal at our parish.
Guest
8th grade for me...That list is to much...I'm sure some kids wouldn't get confirmed because of it...But mabey that's the point...
Apotheoun
I have run into many young "confirmed" Catholics who know more about Hinduism than Catholicism. It's pretty pathetic really. But hey, large numbers of Catholics in the SF Bay Area have embraced all sorts of heresies (Christological, moral, etc.), so what should I expect from kids who went through CCD or Faith Formation programs at parishes that have been overrun by liturgical nonsense and theological error. jazzytakara
It seems to me that they are merely trying to ensure that candidates understand the basics of Catholicism, understand some theology, understand the basics of Church History, and know what goes on within the parish and the diocese as a whole. All of this will be covered in RCIA/Confirmation, most of which would be covered from attending church, practicing the faith, etc. Also the questions on the parish and diocese are to help those being tested to know when mass and reconciliation are being held, and who the appropriate authorities are within the parish and diocese. At the end of the day if anyone can answer all or most of these questions, then they have a pretty decent understanding and knowledge of their faith. Reading these questions is making me want to look into the answers to the questions I don't want know the answers too.

cappie
You can lead a horse to water, but you can't force him to drink. Agree! Gave the list to my sister, she answered just about all corectly. She was educated by the sisters, she is older than me, brought up under the "old" system. She has not been to Mass for at least 10 years. When I celebrated 25 years of priesthood, none of my family (parents are deceased), attended the Mass. Edited June 14, 2013 by cappie

And that is how we end up having ex-Catholics who are way messed up spiritually and don't even know it.
