Byzantine
I didn't take it too badly. I was coherent quickly but had some trouble walking. Had this urge to shout "Forth Eorlingas!" but whether it was the anaesthesia or just because I could is debatable leaning towards just because I could. Ate some fish and mashed potatoes later that day. Only used a few of the pain pills, I think. Overall, not that bad.
WillT
As everybody else has said, the surgery itself was not bad since I was out cold. Just don't do what I did and watch a documentary about people who had their anesthesia not work/wear off. Especially the night before a surgery. It's a good thing they gave me a Valium to take the morning of. The recovery is probably going to suck no matter what. It's just a matter of if it's uncomfortable for a week or more than a week. I was ok but sore within a few days and only took the pain meds for the first two days even though the prescription was for a full week. Be sure to follow the doctor's instructions for eating and cleaning/dressing the wounds and hope and pray for the best!
MissyP89
Mine were impacted. Surgery is easy peasy. Speaking of peas, in the few days after surgery, your surgeon may tell you to ice it for the pain and swelling ... use a bag of frozen peas! They conform to your face better and aren't as uncomfortable as a bag of ice would be. I swelled up pretty bad. It was during the 2008 presidential election and my family called me John McCain for a week. :| Just stick to eggs, mashed potatoes, and of course ice cream. Stay ahead of the pain -- take your meds on time, even if you're sleeping. And make sure to use good hygiene while you recover to prevent infection. All in all, it was a painful few days, but you get through it. No worries.
ContemporaryCaflicCrusader
It's heads or tails. Mine was almost fun, heavy painkillers no schoolwork and lots of ice cream and TV. My dad on the other hand swallowed so much blood I think he said they actually lost him for a little bit. Praying for yours to go like mine instead of my dad's lol. CatherineM
I made the mistake of not taking the pain medicine quick enough, and it was harder to get knocked down.
DiscerningCatholic
Mine was a total piece of cake. In and out in 15 minutes. I had a little bit of swelling two days afterward, but I didn't use a single pain pill. I even made it to gymnastics the day after I got my teeth pulled. ToJesusMyHeart
I hate that this is necessary. :(
Basilisa Marie
Well, if you're a weirdo like me you can ask to keep your teeth. Looking at them was pretty cool. :)
DiscerningCatholic
I hate that this is necessary. :( Well, mine were impacted and coming in sideways, so there was really no way for me to keep them without screwing up the rest of my teeth and jaw. So it might be annoying in the moment, but if it needs doing, it needs doing. :) Offer it up.
CatherineM
My oldest foster son had his taken out the first week in the navy. They have a policy to take them out of everyone who comes in. That way they don't have to worry about having trouble when kids are sea.
AnneLine
Same reason they gave me for why they had to come out before I went into the convent. :)
Gabriela
Had all four out at once. I'm pretty sure they're an issue these days because of our diet, which explains why people didn't need them out in biblical times. Surgery was ok: I laughed, I passed out, I woke up in agony. My mom took me to the car to drive me home. I still couldn't feel my mouth from the numbing stuff. I was dying for some water. Mom bought me a bottle of water at a 7/11 on the way home. I took a drink and nearly drowned. The numbness made it impossible for me to control my swallowing reflex. Wait until the sensation comes back into your mouth before you put anything in it. Or risk choking to death.
cmaD2006
I had all 4 taken out at once, all impacted. I am allergic to codeine (confirmed on that event -- I get heart palpitations from it). So -- my doc told me to take 2 tylenols and 3 advils at once. IT WORKED! I also automatically took antibiotics as prescribed by my doc I ate simple stuff for a week. Yogurt, ice cream, etc., plus I remember eating a steak sandwich that my mom chopped up very finely with onions (I didn't eat the bread -- just meat and onions). I ate that really, really carefully but man my body was happy to get some protein! I didn't have a hard time ... I went to Disney World exactly a week after the extraction. Had a blast.
