I feel pretty stupid! I never realized that, just like the mystery section or the science fiction section, there is a western section in my library! I'm so happy! I have always liked westerns, and I was lucky enough to pick out a good one!

The Rail Kings by Jim Walker ( 301 pages) was amazing! I can't wait to read more books in the series!

If it's laid out as...strangely...as my library, then I don't think you should feel stupid at all!  Was wandering around forever trying to find a specific book one day when one of the staff helpfully pointed out that I was on the wrong floor, because it was a different genre than what it was listed as in the e-card catalog and they had relabeled it. :)

There are no bookstores in town and my Wal-Mart ditched their 3 foot section of scifi books to add more Christian "inspiration"....

Wow, I know what that is like! Our library is huge. There were times I spent forever going around in circles trying to find books. In fact, one time (because I read things both far above and far below my reading level) I was looking for the Juvenile fiction section and had to ask for help! The librarian kind of stared at me for a bit when I asked! It just amazes me that I could not find an entire section of books! Kind of like when I didn't realize that a western section existed!

I totally can identify with both of you on this one.  The SF Public library had leave their beautiful, beaux arts style building a few years back, because it was severely damaged in the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake.  So they built a brand new 'state of the art' structure, and gave the old building to the Asian Art Museum (which now occupies it.)   All the books were 'stored' in warehouses, for several years, while the new one was built.  Only after the new one was built did we discover that over half the collection had been trashed (and I don't mean sold or given away, I mean dumped in dumpsters... )... and that while it had tons of room for computers, and videos (CDs hadn't been invented yet)... there was less than a quarter of the space left for books.  And what was there.... was set up in a format NO one can find or use.   :(

The last time I set foot in there... and it was about 10 years ago, to be honest.... in frustration I told the librarians as I left "I am so frustrated -- I cannot find any books that I would like to read.... I don't want the other stuff... I have what I want of that at home.  Almost every book I want to read from the catalog is now 'missing' or 'in storage' -- and every San Franciscan knows what THAT means.   I'm done with the Main Library... I'll use the branches from now on.  I would swear on a stack of Bibles that I will not set foot back in this place... except I cannot find a Bible."  The librarians stared, and then sniggered... and then started laughing in commiseration.... and one finally said, sadly, "I don't think we HAVE one of those any more... it's on line."   Yup.   Sad.

BUT, there is interlibrary loan.... and I can get any book I want sent to a location nearer to me.   And I don't have to see what they did to our Library.   BTW... they fired the head librarian who dumped all the books.  YES!!!!!

Impressive reading, Chrys, and I am getting so scared, now that you have found another thing besides mermaids to read about... there are TONS of Western books!!!!

Way to go, LWS and Byz!!!!!   I'm chunking through Christy at a mad pace... had forgotten how much I like that one!!!!

:lol3:   This made me laugh! Thanks! I wasn't sure if anyone noticed the mermaid trend! (I was actually doing some research for a personal project with those stories, and was sadly disappointed with almost every one of them...) Actually I read just about every type of book there is, but there are tons of westerns! Actually, so far, every day that I have read  any of my western books, I have had really weird dreams. I think it is connected.... :/

Ok, and I now read

The Wide awake princess   by E D Baker      (261 pgs)

and

Fire in the rainbow     by Stephen Overholser  (287 pgs)
