Chrysophylax
Well, my family just got back home after a week long vacation up north! Although I was highly active with other fun things, I also managed to read all of the library books that I brought with me. (Luckily I will be going to the library Monday and I can get more books then.) Backwater by Joan Bauer (192)Rules of the Road (201) also by Joan Bauer These were both very good! Exciting and good reads. One Crazy Summer by Rita Williams-Garcia (218) meh... it was ok. Water by Robin McKinley & Peter Dickinson(266)Chalice by Robin McKinley (263) Both were fabulous! (Practically anything by Robin McKinley will be good) Montmorency on the Rocks by Eleanor Updale (362) um.. Its a good story, but I don't think I will reread the rest of the series.. If I remember correctly the books get pretty dark, and I still don't really thing the main character has very good morals. The Vicious Deep by Zoraida Cordova (370) Well, the plot is very interesting. The character is a jerk though, and I was not really happy with the book. Also, for being a YA Fiction it has a lot of suggestive content. Ugh.Quiet Gentleman (368) & Devil's Cub (320) both by Georgette Heyer Again, I love Georgette Heyer. Her books are the best! So another 2560 pages, and 9 more books!

AnneLine
Hoping to get to this later tonight... have had to deal with a bunch of stuff including a grumpy computer today! So.... if not today, then tomorrow, but impressive everyone. AND I am within 20 pages of finishing my book!!!! Miles (and everyone else), if you want to get page credit, don't forget to give me a page count -- either look at the book, or look it up on Amazon and you can find the page count! That is a big fat book... I'd check the page count. ;) Hope everyone is having a great day/night!
ChristinaTherese
To enter my first real entry here, with page numbers. Read: A Small Book of Devotions: from the heart of Mother Mary Francis (I'm not sure if that's exactly a title, but it's what's on the page that's normally the title page....): 36 pages (one prayer per page) The Cloistered Poor Clare Nuns: 14 pages, 22 if you count pages that are mostly pictures (and some of the pages I counted are about half pictures...) The Fellowship of the Ring: 395 pages In Progress: The Two Towers The Catholic Mystique: Women Converts Tell Their Stories Questions (sorry if these have already been asked and answered, I don't want to read through 23 pages): Should pages that are mostly pictures be counted, or not? Do prayer books count? Does the Lord of the Rings count as 1, 3, or 6 books?

AnneLine
I am documenting books as I type, and we should be very proud of ourselves!!!!! New list will be out in a few moments. VERY PUBLIC APOLOGY to Doc Bomb -- I hadn't realized you were trying to give me page counts. I was too busy piling up books to toss at him. :paperbag: I have also been chastised by Byz for 'enjoying' the idea of pelting the Doc with Romance Novels. Something tells me one of these days he is going to be a very fine confessor.... I suppose it's only fair to offer to Doc that he can come over here and toss some at me.... I live near the houses on the top row of this mountain.... and we HAVE a village green where I live. So come on out, and bring some old books with you.... And all of you can come, too... we have picnic tables, and lots of good places we can read. :) Also happy to tell you I have completed The Killer Angels (355 pages) and Finding Sanctuary: Monastic Steps for Everyday Life by Abbot Christopher Jamison (192 pages). BOTH are excellent. The Killer Angels is a novelized retelling of the Battle of Gettysburg, and is so well done, with so much of the internal process of the characters. VERY highly recommended. Finding Sanctuary is practical and thoughtful look at integrating the Rule of St. Benedict and the insights of the Desert Fathers into ordinary life for lay persons. VERY well done, and very highly recommended. So... just finishing up the count now, and will post within next hour or so! Welcome to New Readers Christina Therese and Stella Matutina! And congrats to all who have increased pages and books!!!!! In answer to these questions: Questions (sorry if these have already been asked and answered, I don't want to read through 23 pages): Should pages that are mostly pictures be counted, or not? Do prayer books count? Does the Lord of the Rings count as 1, 3, or 6 books? Byz makes the final decisions, but for me, I think you need to use your judgment on the pictures. Comic books they are saying no... but I have several books that the photos/artwork are integral parts of the books (Sr. Wendy Beckett's Pains of Glass: The Story of the Passion from King's College Chapel, Cambridge) comes to mind... and I think I will re-read that one now!!) Prayer books count. LOTR you can count as separate books... you decide... and pages are, well, pages!!!! I'm suggesting people just take the page count that shows on Amazon.... One person counted a compilation of Sherlock Holmes stories as separate 'books' arguing -- effectively -- that each one could be purchased separately. So, yes, follow your own leadings on this! And welcome!!! Edited July 18, 2013 by AnneLine

And welcome!!! I leave the final decision on pages to AnneLine. Prayer books do indeed count. On page 3, with full awareness that LOTR is actually one novel with three parts and six books, the decision was rendered that LOTR would count as 3 books (using the standard division of Fellowship, Towers, and Return). You added it up right, though. You didn't put down the books I currently have in progress.... Have you stopped doing that, or did you just forget? Do you think people on VS would be interested in having the prayer book (the first on the list above) scanned and provided like Emma did with some others? Emma sent it to me, and the prayers are really beautiful, which is why I'm thinking about scanning it at all. There's a whole set of prayers for each mystery of the rosary other than the luminous ones (they were written in '94...), a set for the Stations of the Cross, and some others besides. They really are from the heart of Mother Francis, and I'm finding that hers is a very beautiful heart. Thanks for doing all this, it must be a bit of a challenge to keep track of!
