Aloysius
I plan to write something about the Coptic Orthodox for my masters, so I will be living in Cairo for 3 months this summer. Accommodation is booked, I leave at the end of June. This is happening. What do you think of that? :smokey:
Nihil Obstat
That is super awesome. Make sure not to carve your name into any monuments or historical artifacts. Edited June 5, 2013 by Nihil Obstat

I know people from there. Copts are an amazing people with a deep love of God and their spirituality. The way they know and speak even of the origins of our Christian faith is inspiring and a rare treasure. I have no doubt that this will truly be a blessed time in your life. I am also almost jealous and half tempted to give you an address and beg for a postcard. Please please please keep us updated and post pictures! Anastasia13
Any plans as to what you will be researching while you are there? Yes, history? tradition? Socio-political developments affecting growth/shrinking in a post-Mubarak world? A comparative analysis of Coptic Orthodox with Coptic Catholic (If you go to a Coptic Catholic church, I will so envy you!!! You should totally go if you get the chance). Please please please keep us updated and post pictures! :) I thought you might be jealous haha. it will definitely be great, I think, though it will be extremely hot! I'm even arranging to spend a few days at a desert monastery so... yeah... blessed time, but hot time 8-) Any plans as to what you will be researching while you are there? yes and no. I have plans, but I fully expect it to be completely different from what I plan, which is kind of the point because if I could just know what I was researching I wouldn't exactly have to be going there, I could just research from afar. it'll be loosely connected with the complex relationship between spirituality, identity, and politics in the whole post-revolutionary Egypt situation, but beyond that I'm very non-committal. I've arranged for some accommodations and some contacts to meet and I'm going to see where it takes me. actually, the contacts I will likely be meeting with would actually make you more jealous so I won't say until after it occurs. luckily I got a room with air conditioning! 4588686
Egypt can be a little sketchy with the turmoil from the revolution. I have some friends who have friends/family there now. If you have any questions about security that would be better answered by normal Egyptians rather than school/government officials I'd be happy to pass those questions along. EmilyAnn
I went to Cairo about 10 years ago. It was pretty cool. I had a very surreal moment eating fast-food looking at the Sphinx.
