How Do You Pray?

I've been curious, what are other people's habits of prayer? How, when, what prayers, etc.

Personally I try to pray the Liturgy of the Hours, the Rosary, and Lectio Divina each day. I say try because often I fall short. I'm just interested in how others pray.

This is an excellent question. I await people's answers.

Ooh I've wanted to give that a try. I really love LOTH, and that seems like a natural complement.

I love Baronius Press' printing of it. It is a lovely little blue book, leader bound, with a couple ribbon markers. Pocket size.

I pray the rosary and the divine mercy chaplet. Also, when I get a chance I pray vespers. But, really I never stop because I don't really talk to myself; I talk to God.

That's what I've been trying to do lately. Especially at work, where I've noticed that my brain just kind of shuts off. It's tricky, but I'm working on it! :smile3:

I prefer the rosary and divine mercy chaplet.  But I love the Christian Prayer book I have, ya know the shortened version of the LOTH.  And of course adoration, simple one-on-one time with Jesus

Liturgy of the Hours. And daily Mass, weekly Adoration, maybe weekly Rosary, plenty of aspirations throughout the day.... (Of course, not always daily Mass, nor entirely consistent weekly Adoration, nor always full LOTH, nor always aspirations. Like today has been pretty bad on the prayer front. (It's almost finals... and I have to pack my stuff to put it in storage tomorrow... and....))

Small bits: Lord help me, Thank you Lord. What do you think about this Lord? Seriously Lord? Blessed are you Lord. Lord have mercy. God help me. Whatever needs to be said I hope. Usually in English (exclusively for the Hail Mary and other Rosary parts but rarely the full 5 decades), sometimes Armenian (the Jesus prayer when not in English), Hebrew, or Spanish and especially when driving (my prayer and my foreign language bits are both most active when driving-behind the wheel is a good time to think and pray or avoid thinking but still sometimes pray because there is no one else but God and the radio there, but the rosary stays by my pillows for some nights). I also recently bought an Egyptian book of the hours (in English) I want to try using.

At the risk of sounding like an ignorant bad Catholic... what are aspirations?

Informally.

I support this. From the heart and with the heart is more important than any perfectly worded tradition of prayer.

I'll sometimes pray the rosary while walking, besides that it's basically just quiet time with God and I

I don't think you do. I wasn't sure if the word would be easily understood (or if I used it right...). What I meant was just little two second prayers spread throughout the day, like when starting to study or leaving the building or something.
