Guest
I have brought this up many times because I think its a huge deal and it seems to never really get answered or just sorta brushed under the rug...But I was just replying to the thread topic does the Bible contaiin lies....Like I said I wouldn't say the Bible contains lies...And no I haven't talked to a Priest about this...Mabey I should....But for some reason I don't think I will get the answers I'm looking for... Guest
But Basilisa I don't know if I honestly believe God is in control of everything....Like the story of Job implies....I think God seems to just let things happen and doesn't interfer...That makes the most sense to me...Kids die of cancer everyday...I don't think God chooses to heal some and not the others....Innocent people are murdered everyday...I don't think God says I'm gonna save this person from being murdered and not this one...I believe God exist but I think we just have to go through things as humans and its luck of the draw...And the alternative is the atheist are right and there is no God and that's why bad things happen to good people...Although I don't think this is the case...I think God exist....And God is good...But it really seems He/She/It has a hands off approach and just let's things happen the way they do....Mabey I am wrong...I still pray day and night for the health and protection of myself and my family and friends...So I'm not saying God doesn't provide health and protection...Yet there are people who aren't given health and protection everyday and I don't know how it would be possible to look at them with a straight face and say God gave me health and protection but not you... HisChildForever
I will have to check that it out...I think its better if the Old Testement is actually understood as fiction...I'm not saying this is the case before people start asking "why is delivery boy church militant ?!?!" lol But honestly it was when I really found out some of the stories about the old testement that I questioned the goodness of God...About all of the killing and stuff...And even rape...If these stories never even happened then in my opinion that's a good thing...It would actually strengthen peoples faith I think...Anyhow this topic is confusing for me...I don't know what I believe...Although the more I take in it seems to me that a lot of the stories in the Bible might not have actually happened....Does that make them lies though ? I don't think I would say that...Although it becomes a thin line when you are raised to believe these stories are 100 percent true...Your natural instinct when finding out that they aren't or may not be true is to say they are a lie...Especially when they are presented to you as actual world history... No offense but I was thinking that (again) and lol'd when I saw this

Archaeology cat
Are any of the Old Testement stories even true ? Did they happen in real world history ? check out some Biblical archaeology. Now, the archaeology cannot confirm exact stories or whatnot, but can confirm the existence of people and places. Fr example, there's a clay seal bearing Baruch's name, if I remember correctly. Seven77
It's definitely okay to have doubts. If we never had doubts, having faith would be easy and everyone would do it. :) Have you ever thought about trying to find a good study book of the Old Testament, by a Catholic author? That might help answer a lot of your questions. Even the Jews didn't read the scriptures without help interpreting from their Rabbis. If they didn't read them on their own, why should we expect to be able to do it? :) Some scholars think Job is actually a play - like a melodrama. All it's missing is the dame on the train tracks and a villain with a big mustache. God may not have actually made a bet with the Devil - what's important is figuring out what the story is trying to tell us about our relationship with God. Job was faithful in all things, the story tells us that we owe everything to God, and that evil doesn't happen unless God allows it. The story tells us that God is completely in control of everything. It also might be one person's take on why bad things happen to good people (and the story is good biblical proof to show that you can't expect only good things to happen to you if you're faithful). But like I said, it'd be good to go find a study book for the Old Testament written by a Catholic author. I'd recommend one, but I can't think of one off the top of my head. It is not okay to foster doubts and entertain them willfully...but yes, its okay to have doubts (as in unwilled temptations). But I think its more accurate to say that DB experiences difficulties. Basilisa Marie
It is not okay to foster doubts and entertain them willfully...but yes, its okay to have doubts (as in unwilled temptations). But I think its more accurate to say that DB experiences difficulties. Okay, but what does that even look like in practice? To foster doubts and willfully entertain them? Because I honestly have no idea. It's my experience that people doubt because they don't understand, because they aren't just going to believe something because someone else says it's true. Guest
I don't doubt God...I'm 99 % sure He exist...I pray to Him morning and night...I will admit not knowing 100 percent troubles me because I'm a deep thinker and think things through til they can't be thought about anymore...And then think about them some more...So anyways anywhere I'm dealing with "doubts" its with the Bible and mainly the o.t. Although at the end of the day its not a dealbreaker with me when it comes to remaining Catholic Christian...So in the future I guess I will try to pipe down with asking questions and stating my frustrations...I guess it just is what it is...And I will never get the answer I'm looking for....But I won't let it ruin my faith... Seven77
There is a saying, "1,000 difficulties (questions, etc) don't make a single doubt." I think that describes you, DB. Don't stop asking questions… it's good that you state your frustrations. Asking questions is the best way to learn. I learned a lot by asking questions-- and I'm still learning. By way, my questions led me to discover Catholic Answers.
