FutureCarmeliteClaire
I have Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy sometimes known as Complex Regional Pain Syndrome as a result of my battle with Thoracic Outlet Syndrome. Does anyone else here have this and any advice for natural ways to deal with the pain? I take medicine just about every day for the pain, but I just despise taking pills. PhuturePriest
You should meet up with a Shaolin Monk who is a Kung Fu master in China and see if he will heal you of your infirmities.
Spem in alium
I'm sorry to hear that. My best friend got CRPS as a result of a neurological virus she got about three years ago which made her unable to walk (she's walking now, but uses a walking frame/stick to make things easier). It sounds like such a difficult thing to be dealing with. I'm not entirely sure what she does to treat it herself, but I could ask her if you'd like - she wouldn't mind. She's medicated but I have no idea if she uses natural remedies. I know she was in rehab for a while last year and was doing some physical therapy which helped her get from a wheelchair to a walking frame, but other than that I'm not too sure what else she does. Prayers for you. You're so brave, Claire.
Tufsoles
I am going with PT as well. Massage, if you are comfortable with it. Tai Chi without the religious aspects. I understand your point of view on despising taking pills, there is alot more people out there that don't want to do the same thing.

Avoid a deep tissue massage, you want something very soothing. Meditation, hot bath (hot tub?)
Lil Red
ask around for someone who was trained in nursing homes or hospices as part of their training for massage. I have a friend who is licensed and she did a long rotation at a hospice - as a result, she gives really awesome but gentle massages.
FutureCarmeliteClaire
I'm still going to physical therapy and have been referred to a massage therapist, which I am thrilled about since the massages at PT have worked really well for me. Praise God it only affects my shoulders, neck, arms, and hands (particularly neck and shoulders). So I am still able to walk. It's still not fun, but thankful I have full use of my legs now. Luckily I weaned myself off of the heavy medication, but I take ibuprofen and Tylonel every day, and I'm really sick of it. Thankful I don't have the side-effects from the stuff I had been taking anymore, but I'd rather be taking no medication. I guess that's a reality for me now, but if there are other things that can help, I'd like to go that route.
CatherineM
Regular Tylenol, water aerobics, and headphones with contemporary christian music or audio book. Use it a bit like bio feedback. Heavy duty pain killers don't work. They just shut down your body's natural pain killers. My pain is a bit like background noise now. The funny thing is if I get something else that hurts, headache, ingrown toe, etc. I just go nuts. It's like the straw that sends the camel into max gross load.
