Thanks AL!  I appreciate the prayers and will try to check in.  This weekend should be...interesting.  Tonight is meeting with my chair to discuss pretest results and Dr. C's for some stuff about joining the faculty union.  Tomorrow is helping my friend J. with his rose plot, practicing my defense in the conference room alone, helping with an academic expo and running the stats on my pretest of the survey instrument.  Sunday is Prison Mass, more practice, Dr. C's for game night to unwind.  Monday is D-Day.

Edit:  Tuesday plans are to do what the committee wants and submit my IRB Protocol for review.  Wednesday plans are to fly to Atlanta and check in at hotel and conference.  Thursday I present/chair a panel and probably hitting the wine and cheese poster session for a free dinner.  Friday I fly back from Atlanta.  Saturday is a de-stress day.  Sunday I drive home for the week of Thanksgiving!

Edit2:  Just had a student say it was too difficult in my syllabus to figure out her grade.  398/450 and move the decimal over two places to the right wasn't hard, I thought...

RE edit # 2:

ay yi yi yi yi, BG.

Now I am nobody's mathematician, but you gave them the FORMULA?

Maybe you needed to give them an Excel spreadsheet?  :sos:

On the figuring out the grade thing... YIKES!  You'd think by college they would be able to figure this out, or at least have developed a decent sense of roughly what each score translates to.

So as of 8:30am...lost half the donuts for the committee due to wind taking one of the boxes from my hands.  Accidentally locked keys in office when going to print things (IT has no access from any office on my floor to the building printers at the moment), thus locking me out of everything.  I'm thanking God for His amazing mercy, because the graduate secretary showed up for his once a month meeting, the only time he comes in before his 12:30-4:30 shift, and was able to let me into the office to retrieve the keys.  Slept very little, got up 8 times last night that I remember, and the longest I can recall when glancing at the clock between times was an hour of sleep. :|

AL, thank you so much!! (We all know the cheer smilie has some sort of strange power!)  And that's the thing, with the grade, they had a spreadsheet on D2L, with a column that told them their Final Grade to date.  So I just don't know how to make it any easier!

L&T, thanks!  This will only be the second time I've ever chaired a panel at a conference.  Normally before conference, I get the butterflies about presenting, this time, looking forward to it.  Could be because a more nerve wracking defense is today.

TheresaThoma, yes!!  Completely agree with you!  I think we covered that sort of division in third grade at my school... (Though to be fair, I suppose I can't tell you the proper names of things in the English language that would be identified from back then.)

Edit:  One of my friends lost his dad this morning. :(  Pray for them, please.

Edit 2:  Diss. Chair has given her blessing on the slides after I did a practice run for her...30 minutes!!!

One defense down. One to go. Thank you everyone for putting up with my whining.  I need to make hardcore changes to my survey, the entire committee wants to review it again...which says how much they found wrong with it.  Also my entire qualitative component was torpedoed 1 minute into the hour and forty-five minutes they spent grilling me.  This means I need to figure out a new specialization, because mine was going to be a piece of qualitative software known as Nvivo.  Note:  These defenses usually last an hour.

Oh, BG... that is hard!   You had a horrible set of stuff happen just before the meeting, and then a tough meeting to boot!.

 :console:

Whatever we can do to support you, we will.  You are a fantastic teacher, and one of these days, you will be sharing this story with some kid about to get thru her or his own thesis board.... because you will have been there, done that.  Just stay on track, do stuff one thing at a time.

Do something nice for yourself tonight, OK?  You've earned it...

Thanks I appreciate it!  And I did, I soaked with a book, played some minecraft, etc.  And true, a colleague shared his dissertation horror story with me last night over dinner.  :)

Thanks.  Taking that deep breath and going to try to relax some at conference.  Hoping to score an invite to a publisher's dinner, which is always good for free food. :) And thanks for praying for Tony, I can't imagine what it's like.  Especially as close as he was to his dad.

Thanks.  I do appreciate it!  And I really doubt that, most weeks aren't this hectic at all :P

So, headed to conference for a few days pholks, I hope God watches over all of you and blesses you in that time!

BG if you can I would give your friend a call and just talk about normal stuff, the wind "stealing" your donuts, the silly kids you have in your class etc. I had a friend do that for me after my dad died, and honestly that was pretty much exactly what I needed. That little bit of "normal" helped me so much, I felt a little more balanced afterwards. I'm still really grateful to her for that.

Oh that's a great idea!!  (Though I'm sorry that you lost your dad... :( )  I'll at least shoot him off an e-mail, never got his new cell number after he moved and changed plans.  He's one of the nicest guys I know, and he and his dad were so close...

Omg!  That is awesome Missy!!  I've also been to every bakery listed in that article and a few others haha.  Glad to see it made into the state food, it deserves it. :)

The trip went well overall.  No problems at the airports, going or coming back.  Easy transit to and from hotel.  Friendly staff at check-in...but they got my key wrong and I had to go back from the 28th floor to the lobby for new ones. Oh and I left the most scathing review of a business class hotel I've ever given on TripAdvisor to them, but that's because they totally deserved it.  :|  Panel went well, other than the power failure of the laptop and having to do most of my presentation from memory.  Pretty sure Atlanta has the nicest TSA people I've ever met!

Not the best day thus far.  Need Confession, will have to wait until next Saturday, so it'll be in my home parish with Fr. C.  Yay for mortal sin after everyone has their Confession times for the week and then driving home tomorrow.  Otherwise, a good day.  I've won NaNoWriMo!  Gotta wait to make it official, but still!  Written two job app cover letters, can send in the whole things as soon as the university sends a copy of my e-transcript to gmail.  Found a free (and legal) way to merge PDF files, which will help with that.  http://merge.smallpdf.com/  :)  Plus going to see my family and best friends for the first time since July, tomorrow, and I am so beyond grateful for that.

Father: Phil, are you cheating on us with a Latin Mass?

Me: Uh no Father, that's really strange to ask.

Father: Well it's just that you were one of maybe three people who didn't choke on the incense *laugh*

Me: ...oh haha.
