Ice_nine
all I know is that pluto is a planet and nasa's decision to demote the 9th planet to some inconsequential space rock thereby invalidates anything it has to say about climate change
Laudate_Dominum
Pluto is the one planet that America discovered. Obviously it was demoted by people who hate America; the same people responsible for population control, gun control, the global warming hoax, taking God out of our schools, the liberal bias in the media... It's like the skull and bones are showing off that they have power even over the planets! No, that's not a planet! You're just a monkey. The universe just banged out of nothing. Man-made global warming. . . Because we said so!

Tab'le De'Bah-Rye
I was told on average there are something like 17 volcanic eruptions on this planet per year and these pump out enough CO2 that we couldn't match 1 years worth of volcanic eruptions in 125 years at our current population . I mean it would take 125 years at our current population to match 1 years worth of volcanic activity. Well that's one side of the argument i have been lead to. I'm Global warming neutral,a global warming agnostic, neither yay or nay. I think it is good to have alternatives though, but unsure if eco apocalypse if possible that where actually skating on thin ice as of yet. It could just be a natural cycle. More data is needed, this is only a new revelation of science. Onward christian souls. JESUS iz LORD. P.s. I do care about the environment and i think all these alternative resources for power are great. And cars are one of the biggest contributors to Man made CO2. morostheos
Here's the thing: whether human caused climate change is happening or not, we are all called to use the things we have in our life for God's glory, not our own. The current culture of constant consumption in the name of convenience does not do that. Driving here, there and everywhere just because we can is a great luxury that we take for granted. I'm not saying we should go back to the stone age, but we should discern the difference between what we need and what we want, and for those things we want, what will bring us closer to God and what will only distract us. For all the environmentalists who are calling people to live simply for the sake of our planet, there have long been those in the Catholic Church that have been living this out much more effectively than the environmentalists: the consecrated religious. While living in the world as lay people we are not necessarily called to the same poverty and simplicity as religious, there is still great virtue in emulating that, each in our own way. Papist
Global warming is an inside job. Bohemian Grove, Skull and Bones, Dick Cheney and Halliburton... It's all about big government and the erosion of our freedoms. The military industrial complex, for crying out loud! The UN is all about it -- 'nuff said. Look up Agenda 21. The carbon tax is just another scam from the big bankers, like when they invented the income tax and killed the gold standard. Everyone knows that God controls the climate and it is the height of arrogance to suggest that man can change it. CO2 is plant food. The world is getting better, more fertile, more clement, but they want us to be scared sheep begging to have our freedoms taken away. As Albert Einstein and the Founding Fathers once said, He who gives up freedom for security deserves neither. Give props if you agree. (Hopefully someone sincerely confirms Poe's law as a reward for my explication efforts.) Was going to give props, but realized at the last second that you left out Bush. Thy Geekdom Come
I'm going to drive an extra 5 miles in my pickup for every post in this thread. :p jk Seriously, I don't mind lowering pollution. I'm an advocate of it. How could I not be, having lived in Steubenville? I plan at some point to install solar panels at my house. I intend to recycle rainwater for my garden. I'll be planting an orchard. I just don't buy that this is global warming is man-made, or at least not significantly so. Sorry you don't agree with me. I probably am a bad parent, but not for this. Laudate_Dominum
Props to you, Micah. I want to do that stuff too. I think being off the grid would rule. Turns out I'm not big on lifestyle recommendations. If someone is interested, I'd say become acquainted with the best available understanding of the GW issue, or whatever, and decide for yourself what you think you should/can do about it, if anything. I don't object to an informed and intelligent non-committal position on the extent of the anthropogenic contribution to climate change. There is some fraction of published climate scientists who apparently don't judge the litany of research confirming the predominance of anthropogenic contributions to be conclusive enough (a few percent at least). I'm not in the least bit surprised or upset by this. In my amateur opinion the majority conclusion clearly reflects the more robust body of research and cannot be dismissed lightly. What does sometimes perturbs me is misinformation and cringe-inducing arguments about a subject that I like a lot. This is what seems to happen on the interwebs as a general rule. I don't mean to pick on anyone in this thread. I'm choosing to not take this simulation seriously. Joe invited me to this shindig and I'm just here to troll a bit and have a good time. I hope we're all having a good time.
Socrates
You remind me a lot of Jonah Goldberg: http://www.salon.com/2012/05/10/jonah_goldbergs_desperation/ Eager to be clever and sardonic but too intellectually lazy to ever achieve substance. Sounds like something you could aspire to with some reasonable effort and practice. That's at least a couple steps above the whole "copy-paste or link to a left-wing article, then insult those who disagree with your politics" method. Goldberg's okay, but I'm more of a Mark Steyn fan myself. (And no, I didn't bother to click on that link. I've got plenty of much better things to read than salon.com articles.)
