Tab'le De'Bah-Rye
Pax domini bretheren... Do i have to pray the fatima prayer at the end of each decade for a valid recitation of the holy rosary. Because i assume that the original rosary didn't have the fatima prayer since the rosary was gifted to us and st dominic(unsure if it was st dominic whom 1st did the holy rosary,) well before the whole fatima visions. Or am i thinking wrongly and that the fatima prayer pre-dates the visions of the fatima children. Or where the children at fatima told to include this prayer onto the holy rosary. I guess i will some it up in this. " Is the Rosary still valid minus the Fatima prayer?" Edited May 7, 2013 by Tab'le Du'Bah-Rye
cappie
According to the book Our Lady of Fátima by William Thomas Walsh (Macmillan, 1947), in an interview with the author Sr. Lucia states that "The correct form is the one I have written in my account of the apparition of July 13: 'O my Jesus, pardon us, and save us from the fire of hell; draw all souls to heaven, especially those most in need.'" This version does not have the commonly-added phrase "of thy mercy" at the end of it. (This was the original) The prayer was formally added by Pope Pius XII but is not a compulsory part but a laudable addition. It has gained wide spread acceptance. "After each decade the Fátima Prayer may also be said (Pope Pius XII). O my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of hell, lead all souls to heaven, especially those who are in most need of Thy mercy." The less commonly said "Fátima Prayers" include the Pardon Prayer, the Angel's Prayer, the Eucharistic Prayer and the Sacrifice Prayer which the seers said they learned from the heavenly personages of their visitations. Sister Lucia said another two prayers were given to her in 1931 in a vision of Jesus Christ. These two are known as the Conversion Prayer and the Salvation Prayer and are often classed as Fátima prayers. So no it is not needed but a laudable and common addition Edited May 7, 2013 by cappie
