I Dyed My Hair And..

I have dyed my hair for years and I am really good at. However, When I did it the last time(2 days ago), instead of coming out Auburn brown, It came out burgundy. I did the 48 hour strand test and made sure the box I bought was sealed and every thing. I was so sure it was Auburn Brown to cause I kept the last box to make sure that I got the same color number this time. I checked the colorant to make sure it was the right color. I left on the recommended time to because I have a timer on my cell and I set it to go off when I am done. I did everything by the book. I even read the directions twice to make sure. I don't hate it but I don't like it either. I feel like a goof.

Dying hair is a post-Vatican innovation. If you would simply go back to the pre-Vatican way of thinking, this would never have happened..

(That's a joke.)

You might try walking around with a glass of burgundy in your hand wherever you go and whatever you do, so that people can see you dyed your hair to match your wine.

Anne of Green Gables dyed her hair green when it was supposed to be black. I think you got off easy. ;)

I don't drink.... The glass of Burgundy wouldn't help.

I did feel like Anne of green gables writing this.

Probably TheresaThoma is right.   Outdated or off batch....

Have you tried calling the company?  Sometimes they know what to do... or will at least give you a coupon for a  free box for next time....

Funny story....

One of my aunts put a henna pack on her hair (long time ago, this story...)   It was suposed to stay on for about 30 mins.... and then get rinsed off.  Some of the neighbor kids found and turned off the water valve to the building... so when she went to rinse off the color, no water.  No water for a few HOURS.   (this in the days before you could go out and buy the bottled stuff... btw....)

She said that she figured that if it had been regular hair dye it would have fallen out.

But, henna is an herbal.  And what happened is it also turned a deep, mahogany red with purple overtones.  Until she went in the sun.  In the sunlight, it was wild colors of green and purple and turquoise and hot red.

Oh my.... have you tried going outside yet?

Hope yours is a temporary problem that can get fixed by a salon, maybe?

I'd be wary of mixing chemicals, but John C Frieda does have a pretty good non-dying coloring product that just puts a little overcolor glaze on the hair... might make a difference... but I'd call the company to check.....

Maybe it was a bad batch of dye or an old box?

That is what I was thinking but I feel like a goof.

I went outside. It was still a bit burgundy. I washed my hair couple days and it does look a bit better. I didn't use henna but I did use Nutratint. I have been using the stuff forever and never had a prob. Maybe it was a fluke.

Well... hopefully it will be easily corrected next time you color.... or after a few more washes.

And it sounds... interesting.

I still wonder what my aunt told people in the 1950's or 1960s -- NOBODY dyed their hair weird colors back then..... ;)

Humph, Mon, you're pushing it.....   I have BROWN hair with grey streaks.  That I happen to like a LOT.

As one of my uncles put it succinctly to my mother, "Maddy, it's hair".  Exactly.

You keep goin' on retreats, maam, and they will nun-nap you and then we wont know what color your hair is... ;)     :nun:
