Just War

Wanted a quick answer, so here goes:

Let's say Country A has a legitimate reason for declaring war on Country B. However, there is no serious chance of success unless Country C joins in on A's side. Is C allowed to join A?

Why wouldn't it? As long as every action to maintain peace and further peace has been tried, there is no reason not to. England declared war on Germany even though Germany invaded Poland. Poland needed England's help, and Germany was in the wrong. England was justified in declaring war on Germany (From my understanding).

I would say only if it is otherwise just for C to be involved in the war. If C has no legitimate moral reason to go to war, then I think Just War doctrine would forbid it.
However, I will admit that I am having a tough time coming up with a plausible scenario in which war between A and B is just, but not between C and B. I am not sure whether or not it is a theoretically workable situation, but it does strike me as within the realm of possibility.

Would a defensive alliance or old friendship between the countries justify C going to A's aid?

In and of itself... Honestly, I want to argue no, but I am just not sure. A purely defensive alliance, probably. Old friendship...? I am slightly stumped.

What if it was certain that if A fell, B would attack C right after, and that only a combined effort by C and A had any chance?

Why does everyone always have to pick on B? Anyone with a brain and some guts knows that A started it. Not debatable.

What if B were orcs and A and C were men and elves?

Then A and C should fight them continuously for thousands of years, until nine people sweep in and destroy them all in three years.
