Chestertonian
I am not saying nude are it intrinsically bad, its only bad because man has an increased sexual passion from original sin. Therefore nude art has a high potential to cause scandal. I understand it is not infallible and others are not obligated to agree with me. However I feel it is an unnecessary potential for sin. Why cant they just cover those parts up. I would also say for an old man who is beyond the age of, you know, it would be permissable for him to enjoy this art without much temptation for sin. But I strongly believe for most people it is a powerful unnecessary temptation. I'm sure nude art does cause temptation in some men. It's just that, to me, it doesn't seem like a pressing, 21st century problem. I concede that lust is a big problem for virtually everyone, Catholics included. I heard somewhere that something like half of practicing Catholic men admit that lust is a major problem in their lives. But these men aren't pleasuring themselves (pardon the candor) to images of painted women. They're turning to pornography on the internet. Archaeology cat
It think there is nothing wrong with breast feeding. As long as the breast are covered, I would say its a good thing and has the opposite effects of scandal by showing that breasts are for feeding babies. That should be the first thing one thinks of when they hear the word breasts, but our society is perverted. no, breastfeeding is good in an of itself. Look at all the images of Mary. There's a shrine to Our Lady of La Leche near me. A woman breastfeeding openly isn't being immodest, she is simply feeding/comforting her child the way God designed. Nothing more or less. I love that my Bishop actually pointed out a breastfeeding mum as an example of Our Lady of La Leche. As please, if you see a woman breastfeeding openly, do not tell her to cover or move, for that can be enough for some to just quit breastfeeding. I've been breastfeeding for over 5 years now (3 kids) and such a comment still greatly upsets me. Especially now, since breastfeeding has been a real struggle with my youngest. I know this is rather tangential, but obviously I find it important. I will agree with you that breastfeeding should be the natural association with breasts and that society has overly sexualised breasts - all the more reason to breastfeed openly in my opinion. Definitely. I find it odd that we Americans are more obsessed with breasts than people from other countries. I will agree, the problem is that Americans are perverts. If she is within the ages of 25-40 I know for a fact there are young boys out there that will objectify her and gaze with lust. However under most cultures where people are not so perverted I would agree with you.

When I visited the seminary in November, they had a hallway full of statues of Mary, and one of them had a completely uncovered breast of Mary feeding Jesus. I don't think one person had impure thoughts at seeing that. Breastfeeding is a natural thing and it is so much healthier than formula, and I hope you don't let anyone talk you out of it. Society has way over-sexualized breasts, and I wish it wasn't that way.

Anastasia13
Wow, I read the 1st page, so forgive the blind post, but there are people who are tempted more by different things, and that should be respected. When something is not as much of an occasion to sin for someone, then that can be respected to.

I think that had something to do with the puritans in America back in the day.

The image of young boys staring lustfully had me on the floor. Edited May 3, 2013 by CatholicsAreKewl

arfink
Wow, this thread has it all. I've heard the following outrageous statements: Women are objects Women are also occasions of sin If a man is aroused by a woman and he's not married to her they are both committing mortal sin Breastfeeding is immodest Americans are all perverts I'm done. PhuturePriest
ta-tas are not all that exciting. It appears we have finally found something to agree upon. I have no clue why a lot of men go crazy about them. They're just breasts.
