OnlySunshine
What is the Catholic view on nudism? I've seen many varying sources so I'd like the real answer. Some say it's considered pornography. Others say it's fine as long as there are no sexual acts. What about nudity in art like the Sistine Chapel? I have a friend who has been confused about this for years and I'd like to clear up any confusion, once and for all. Theoketos
God made us to be naked without shame. We are sinful and have concupiscence. So generally speaking being clothed is the modest way to go. That being said I do not think the Church proscribes nudity in Art for the sake of art (apart from pornography) or for medical reasons. Nudists colonies IMHO are simply a Western excuse for hedonism and an occasion of sin. Though in my own personal experience is only what I, REGRETFULLY, saw on MTV as stupid young man. Plus from what I hear the average human body is not something to be lusted after. Perhaps you need to volunteer for a few hours cleaning butts at an old folks home (or suggest some to your friend). That last sentence is the best sentence I have ever written.
