Apotheoun
That's a model way of approaching such a situation. The only time it fails is when I talk to Muslims about misconceptions they have about us stemming from inaccuracies in their holy texts. It's much harder to debate that. That is why it is important to be familiar with Islamic texts (i.e., the Qur'an, the Hadith, etc.) as Fr. Zakaria Botros has said in a lot of his talks. It helps to point out the mistakes Muhammed made in the texts and that he knew very little about Christianity (e.g., thinking that Mary was a member of the Holy Trinity, etc.). In a lot of my conversations with Muslims in the late 90s and early 2000s I always found it interesting when the young men I was talking with tried to use the New Testament to prove that Muhammed was the "Comforter" mentioned by Jesus in St. John's Gospel, because it was clear to me that they had not really read the chapters of the Gospel on that topic, which made it easy to show why Muhammed cannot be the Paraclete. There's also the insane argument that Muhammad is mentioned in the Old Testament. I watched one of his videos and it's interesting. I'm stunned he's still alive. T-fish
Yeah, but I don't know if my personal "harmful attacks on other religions" meter is way different than what counts on this site, so I don't want to be "that guy" who is reporting posts unnecessarily. Which is why I'm posting this thread, because I'm trying to figure out exactly what the mods think counts for Phatmass. It's biased on the moderators. They decide what is appropriate and what is not. One thing about muslims, they ain't sissies or tattle tellers. I don't think you will find a muzzie saying: "Waaah, my feelings were hurt." Papist
Maybe if you spent less time watching Arrested Development and more time focusing on the tasks at hand you would have seen it? So what you are saying is, that she is justified for missing. Agreed.
BG45
I have received a few different uncharitable replies on this phorum, enough to almost leave for good. I don't think people always remember that our posts are also part of our witness as Christians. Unfortunately some things do slip through the cracks. I know, off the top of my head over five years or so, I've been told on this phorum that I'm: 1. Going to Hell 2. A NOtard for attending the Novus Ordo 3. Too liberal/too conservative (but with fun extra commentary on how awful a person I am) 4. A racist. 5. A government shill 6. Any number of uncharitable things I think part of what we're called to do as Christians, even on the internet, is to understand sometimes people have bad days and call others things that they normally wouldn't. The guy who called me a NOtard (and I believe is now banned) was a pretty hardcore TLM attendee, but I don't think he'd normally toss around that terminology, he'd usually draw a line before then. The time I got called a racist? When I reread the post enough times, I realized that even though I was quoting the theory of a latina friend, it could have been seen as my being racist from a certain POV. I'm not saying to let people walk all over one another, just that if it's old enough, let sleeping dogs lie. If it's an uncharitable personal attack in the future, hit the report button, God (and the mods) knows I have. Not unless you'd like to go to hell for being a sloth. I confess, to you my brothers and sisters, that I have shown the SNL: Sloths skit to my Courts class this semester to give them energy during an extra boring chapter. I didn't take offense so much as I was annoyed about how people throw that word around without justified reasoning.

I didn't take offense so much as I was annoyed about how people throw that word around without justified reasoning. Well... go back and reread some of your early posts. :| But yeah... "misongynist" is a little bit strong. I was called a racist because I suggested that it was in the best interest of the immigrant population to learn English because English is the language that will best allow them to be successful in the US. I also maintained that we have a responsibility to provide resources to learn it. Heartless, I know.
