The Traditional Mass In Japan

NLM just posted an article about the missal that Una Voce Japan has published for the traditional Mass. Apparently it is based on a 1950 Japanese-Latin missal.

Two pictures:

It is nice to know that Una Voce is working hard worldwide. The Church in Japan is, of course, very small, so they must face many challenges that we would not normally encounter.

Here is a picture I found from the Una Voce Japan website:

Totally digging that purple cassock.

Do you mean that server in the first picture? Because it looks black to me.

The second picture. The server on the far left is wearing purple.

Hm. You may actually be right for once. It could be a trick of the light or something, I suppose.

That is quite odd though, since there is really no reason for a purple cassock to even exist. :P

Wrong. It's the lighting plus the incense. Sorry, FP.

It doesn't matter if it's the lighting. It still looks purple, and it looks freakin' awesome. Purple is the color of the Eastern Roman Empire, too, so Eastern Catholics could have purple cassocks if they wanted.

Archbishop Lepine of Montreal would beg to differ

And so would Archbishop Lori of Baltimore but I can't find a picture of him in his purple cassock, but he did come and speak at a retreat I was on and he was decked out in a purple cassock.

You're right, as they're archbishops, it's amaranth red. But purple cassocks DO exist for regular bishops, although they prefer to go with black with purple piping and purple fascia. I just couldn't find a picture online.

Well all right, fine. :P I should have specified dark/royal purple, because that is what the cassock appeared to be in that picture.
