Chestertonian
The Whole Foods parking lot always seems to be inundated with an inordinate amount of Subaru Outbacks, usually plastered with "Save Tibet," "Coexist" and rainbow flag bumperstickers. Whenever I go to Portland, OR, the granola capital of the US, it seems like every other car on the freeway is an Outback. Is this just a NW phenomenon, or is the Outback replacing the Volvo as the official "hipster-mobile?"
Nihil Obstat
Iunno, but according to a mechanic/car enthusiast friend of the family, they are really excellent vehicles. I thought the Prius was the hipster car.

dUSt
I don't think I've ever seen one in Texas, but I saw a lot in Colorado and California.

Apparently the Subaru's all wheel drive is quite impressive.
OnlySunshine
Here, the Toyota Prius seems to be the "hippie" car. I haven't seen many Subaru's. Volvo's, here, are not "hippie" cars. My uncle owns a Volvo and he is, in no way, a "hippie" or "liberal."
morostheos
That is definitely the case here in CT. I have the "mini" version of the Outback, the Impreza hatchback - it is a FANTASTIC car. I love it.
Tab'le De'Bah-Rye
my mum owns a subaru forrester AWD, it is heavy to drive, the steering is heavy, the clutch is heavy, the accelerator is heavy and the gearbox is heavy. By heavy i mean it seems stiff and hard to use. I find the forrester a horrible car to drive. Some people though i assume actualy like that kind of car, makes you feel like your doing something. My friend has a new ford FPV which is the opposite end of the scale where everything is to easy and it feels like your floating and not really on the road, i don't like that either. Jap cars i like better.
