I know that if you touch it, you go into this fantasy world with fairies and little leprauchuans everywhere and they pamper you as you travel on your bed through outta space.

Try it someday.

Flowery, there I was gently reading this thread, feeling concerned about your sister and reviving fond memories of the 'I hate spiders..' club, when SUDDENLY the picture you posted filled my computer screen. :o :o :o I'm going to have nightmares for weeks now.......

Hope your sister is OK......she's in my prayers......

Wowzers, that's scary flowery! I've seen pics of recluse bites that didn't look pretty, so keep close watch on it. Prayers!!

My family's house in AR is infested with them (have been since it was built over 25 years ago). For the most part, they aren't too much of a worry, because as the name implies, they are "reclusive." They hibernate (so to speak) in the winter months, and you won't see them except when its hot. To my knowledge, they do not form webs. Also, an easy way to recognize them is that if you look at their backs, you will see what looks like a violin shape.

I've had arachniphobia for years (although it has died down a bit), but these little devils have been in the bed, in the bathtub (one time, I took a nice 10-minute shower, and only when I was done did I see a giant one in the bathtub floor...talk about FREAKY). I've smashed one on my hands accidentally, which I quickly washed with amonia.

Bites are pretty non-life threatening as long as you get them treated within a relatively good time frame, to make sure the venom doesn't spread very far.

For YEARS we were told that they don't bite; that you had to smash them and get the poison on you that way. It wasn't until about 10 years ago that people started talking about bites from them (in our area).

PS: Not-so-fun fact. The average person who lives a full life will swallow about 8 spiders in the sleep. EWWWW
