April Blizzard

Was just out driving in it. Spun the car a couple of times.

Note to self: don't drive an '86 Honda Accord with old tires and no anti lock brakes in a snow storm.

That sounds incredibly fun.

That sounds incredibly fun.

It would be fun if the stakes were not quite so high.

About a month ago I was trying to get to church in a blizzard. It was so bad that I was not able to get up the hill towards the church. Had to turn around halfway and find some other way up. I found a longer, slightly less steep hill, and it took me a good 10 minutes of trying to find a line with a little bit of grip to slide my way up. Had to reverse a couple times to get off of a slippery area.

On a road where normally everyone does 80-100 km/h, we were doing 40 or less. Normally the road is three lanes, but we had to treat it as two just so we could use other people's tire tracks. Crazy. I probably should not have gone, actually. It was very dangerous.

Not really. Your car isn't supposed to go sideways, it tends to break things on the car. :/

Needless to say, I am not going back out.

Once we were driving on the highway during an ice storm, and we spun (And we literally did spin) out of control. It was quite thrilling.

That is great, until people get hurt or killed. :|

In Calgary, sometimes an overnight blizzard leads to crashes the next morning in the hundreds, many of them involving injuries, some involving deaths. That blizzard I mentioned in my other post, that morning there were nearly 200 accidents. That was a Sunday morning, too. Over a dozen injuries in just a few hours, in that case. And it has been much worse before.

Yikes!   Be careful of passengers (and drivers) when out traveling, ARFink.    Especially those heading toward airports and post offices....

Started out with a sleet storm, which turned to snow later in the day. The boys and I were at co-op, which is nearby. But my daughter was at the capitol on a fieldtrip... Teen drivers on unfamiliar roads in a snowstorm do not sit well with me. She's home now, though. HSdad came home early, too.

We're supposed to drive to Rochester in the morning. Hmmm...

When I was in MN, we had a snowstorm (and potentially a blizzard) hit on Thanksgiving night and had to drive home in it. The visibility was shocking. We saw a car spin off the road and into a ditch, but thankfully they were able to drive out.  It was one of the more terrifying times of my life.

My brother and I did the almost the same thing during the first bad snowstorm of last winter. Thrilling isn't the word I'd use for it. I think I used every single curseword I knew in a sentence that day.

No, it's not typical spring. Usually if/when we get snow in April, we've had a fairly mild March. Not this year. No break. Last year was the year that winter never came. This is the year where winter will never GO AWAY!
