Mr Cameron
Should I buy from Angelus Press or shouldn't I? I'm completely confused. I'm sure you know what I meant, but if you don't, it's the publishing house of the SSPX. (and due to their irregular current situation, I'd like to know if I'd be sinning or doing something wrong buy patronising their shop).
Nihil Obstat
I see nothing wrong with buying their materials. They publish many excellent and irreproachably Catholic books.
Slappo
Out of all the possible vendors you could support, one who is in a canoncally irregular situation is near the top of best vendors to use. Consider the moral views of many of the secular stores we use every day with those of Angelus Press and I guarantee Angelus Press will be looking pretty darn good. If Angelus Press and a Catholic bookstore fully in line with the Church sold the exact same materials for the same price, then go with the Catholic one, but otherwise Angelus Press is fine to shop from. Many people prefer Angelus Press' breviary to that of Baronius Press for instance and even that would be a valid reason to choose Angelus Press. Nihil Obstat
Also it bears keeping in mind that Angelus Press as a company is not canonically irregular, because the FSSPX is not the same as Angelus Press. And also because publishing companies are not supposed to have canonical standing in any case. (Why would they?) So there is certainly a degree of separation between the company and the Society. That is not to pretend that they are not closely linked, but I do think it is relevant. Edited April 18, 2013 by Nihil Obstat
Nihil Obstat
One last thing: I am not sure whether Angelus Press is operated by a layperson or laypeople, or by SSPX priests, but I would assume laypeople, all things being equal. That being the case, a layperson incurs no canonical penalty by attending SSPX Masses, even as far as I know by monetarily supporting the SSPX. Part of this being relevant also depends on how Angelus Press is organized as a company. For instance, whether they are a private company owned by the SSPX, or a corporation owned primarily by the SSPX, etc., etc.. I do not know any of those details, but I do think they have some relevance as well.
Basilisa Marie
I think what matters more is the book you're interested in buying. :)
