MissScripture
Water was what helped me. I needed to make sure I stayed hydrated. Making sure you are not calcium or potassium deficient is a good idea, too. Potatoes contain potassium, I believe.

I used to get the worst charley horses when I was pregnant, usually starting in the arch of my foot and shooting pain all the way up my calf. I got a couple so bad that it was painful to walk for a few days. I'd get them every morning when I stretched before getting out of bed. I quit stretching because I was so leery of the pain. Stretching in the morning is apparently a huge "no!" for your body, because I'm always rewarded with a really bad one. The ones in the foot are the worst, in my opinion. It's really hard to fix those, and they hurt for days.
cartermia
As for bananas, that is out of the question. My tongue is plagued by being able to taste what is good and what is not, and bananas are in the "what is not" category. :P I put peanut butter on bananas because I HATE them but they help me with my Charley horses. I have Charley horses that start in my toes and will slow go up my leg and usually ends when it gets to my shoulder. My sisters said once that I was I was "screaming bloody murder" during the night and they asked me what I was dreaming about. I said I had a terrible Charley horse, and now they have never asked me about me screaming during the night again.

Tufsoles
Like everyone says Calc and K but sometimes it is a sign of Iodine deficiency.what type of salt to you use? If it's sea salt then you should switch to iodized salt. A good multi will help as well. As much as we all try to eat a clean healthy diet, not everyone will get their dietary needs met. No walmart stuff. GNC is a good start. They have good cheap quality multi's for young men. Make sure it has Folate/Folic acid.
Gabriela
Is the iced tea you're drinking sweetened? Because sugar depletes potassium levels, thus causing cramping.

FutureSister2009
Oh my gosh I get the most awful ones in my legs during the night! It doesn't happen every night thankfully but when they do I just lie there in agony.

StMichael
Have you moved to a dry climate recently (Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, CA, etc.)? It is dehydration that leads to muscle cramps (most of the time) and can fixed by simply increasing your daily intake of water.
