Leading Each Other To Holiness

I always hear that the in a marriage, the main goal is to get your spouse and kids to heaven. And I guess that in essence, that goes the same for a more serious dating relationship in terms of helping your boyfriend/girlfriend live a holy life. So, I was just wondering - does anyone have any practical suggestions on how we can actually live this out in a dating relationship? :)

Go to Mass.  Make Holy Hours.  Go volunteer somewhere.  Go take a homeless guy to lunch.  Keep each other accountable.  Pretty much anything that is leading a good Christian life you should lead your partner too.  Do it with them.  (also punch heretics in the face)

While dating, perhaps the couple can assist each other towards heaven. However, they are limited when compared to a husband and wife couple.  When a man and woman enter into marriage, they are entering in a Covenant relationship through the Sacrament of Matrimony. The grace received from this sacrament is essential to the duty of each spouse helping the other (and children) to reach heaven.

 

My best advice is that the couple, both, have a relationship with the Catholic Church.....individually and together.

Practice open and honest communication.  Compromise with each other.  Just practicing basic relationship building skills is important, so that if you do end up getting married you hit the ground running.

Call them out when they dissent from the teachings of the Church and help them to understand and accept those teachings.
