For Those Who Cover Their Head At Mass...

That grew out of a Spanish/Portuguese tradition, I think.

One common mistake among traditional Catholics, is interpreting certain local traditions/customs as universal and thinking that "the way things used to be" in certain areas of the church should apply to everyone now.  Up until the second half of the 20th century, I think nearly all women wore some form of head covering in church.  (And IMHO, I think the practice disappeared from public life for no good reason)  But they were not all black and white mantillas worn according to marital status, and while older editions of canon law mentioned veiling as a requirement for women, there was no specification as to veil color.

I never said any of those things. I am not a Traditionalist. In England, for example, I imagine hats would have been the more likely choice for headcovering. Colours by marital status is just a tradition, it was never binding by law but just common practice.

I sometimes match my mantilla color to my mood. Feeling chipper? White veil. Feeling gloomy? Black veil. Feeling blue? ..... ;) I have a burgundy one for Good Friday (blood shed), and a gold one for extra special occasions (Easter). The store I buy them at sells rainbow mantillas too but I just couldn't wear that. :)

il_340x270.354966888_s5dw.jpgI think some people also select things more like a giant headband, which would work for some hair types.

there are bandanna headbands that you can get at Claire's or Icing or wherever & if you get the big ones, they cover a lot of your head.......

I have bought two of the headbands at Glitters (like a Claire's but oh so much cheaper), and my sisters told me I looked like a nun in my black one... I have not seen it for about a year. So now I have my green embordery headband.

The above site has instructions on tying scarves.  I either where a scarf or a knit snood.

And, as for courage, don't worry about what is done and what isn't really done - do what you think you should, and don't get caught up in who is doing what at which parish.  :)

Oooo! I love the crown tie.

basically it's like a larger/floppy beanie/hat type thing. Here's a picture of one, but they come in various sizes/patterns/styles/colors etc

I usually wear a mantilla that comes to a point.  Trouble is, I've had some mexicans tell me that the point goes in the front.  I wear the point in the back, the flat side on the front.  They tell me that's backwards.

I have not been able to find any proof that there is a front or back to a manitlla, I just wear it flat side front, point hanging in the back...

 I don't even know how you would wear it the other way around. When I wear my mantilla, the point is definitely in the back.

I just left a review for this seller. LOVE my purchase. I've worn it almost every day since I received it! I'm ordering another very soon. Highly recommended. :like:
