A young Ricky Skaggs singing "Talk about Suffering [Here Below]." That man can flat out sing! And this is from 1989 when he was in his prime voice. A cappella, classic American folk hymn. The song doesn't actually start until about 50 seconds into the video.

If angels don't sing like Alison Krauss, they should. Here she sings "Jesus, Keep Me Near the Cross."

The actual singing begins at 0:50. The last chorus is sung a cappella, with the guy holding the camera singing a sweet harmony.

Jesus Keep Me Near The Cross Lyrics

Jesus, keep me near the cross,
there a precious fountain,
free to all, a healing stream,
flows from Calvary's mountain.

Chorus:
In the cross, in the cross, be my glory ever;
'til my raptured soul shall find rest beyond the river.

Near the cross, a trembling soul,
love and mercy found me;
there the bright and morning star
sheds its beams around me.

Chorus

Near the cross! O Lamb of God,
bring its scenes before me;
help me walk from day to day,
with its shadows over me.

Chorus x 2

This one's from 1963 - Vatican II was still in progress then, wasn't it?

This is. Just. So. Smooth. Understated pop. Just enough instrumentation to support a great lead vocal by Barbara Lewis. I could dance to this all night.  (With the right person, of course!)

Carlene Carter does a duet with Willie Nelson on "Troublesome Waters." It's a commonly known religious folk song, but this particular version was written by Carlene's grandmother Mother Maybelle Carter, her husband Ezra (aka EJ), and Dixie Deen (who later went on to marry Tom T Hall).

It's the season of grace coming out of the void
Where a man is saved by a voice in the distance
It's the season of possible miracle cures
Where hope is currency and death is not the last unknown
Where time begins to fade
And age is welcome home

It's the season of eyes meeting over the noise
And holding fast with sharp realization
It's the season of cold making warmth a divine intervention
You are safe here you know now

Don't forget
Don't forget I love
I love
I love you

It's the season of scars and of wounds in the heart
Of feeling the full weight of our burdens
It's the season of bowing our heads in the wind
And knowing we are not alone in fear
Not alone in the dark

Karl Jenkins' "Benedictus." It's from his Mass for Peace. I'm not all that fond of many parts of it, but this very good. It's the 'blessing' at the end of the piece, but the words are basically from the Sanctus - Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.

I post it for the feast of St. Catherine of Siena, a particular friend of mine. I've had the opportunity to pray at her tomb in Rome (Santa Maria sopra Minerva church) and in Siena. Happy feast day, St. Catherine! And happy feast of St. Catherine to all of you!

Something else from Karl Jenkins - it's labeled "Sanctus," but it sounds like it's got some parts of the "Gloria" added in to me.

I post it in honor of St. Pope Pius V, whose feast is today.

This is an old Black spiritual, "Ain't You Got a Right," scored for large chorus. I really like this version by the Georgia Tech choir.

Personally, I think this song, with paraphrased lyrics, would be perfect for the March For Life.

To honor a couple celebrating their 65th wedding anniversary today.

Emmylou Harris (lead), Dolly Parton (high harmony), and Linda Ronstadt (low harmony) sing "When We're Gone, Long Gone" written by Jamie O'Hara and Kieran Kane (the duo formerly known as the O'Kanes).
