I Need Fashion Advice

I'm going to Emily's sister's wedding on June 1st (Most likely), and since I absolutely refuse to wear the suit I currently have which is way too big for me in front of Kate, I am buying another suit. I'm partial to the traditional black pants, white shirt, black jacket ensemble because I like scaring people since it's not rare for me to have a backpack and I look like a Mormon with it all on, but I'm thinking of perhaps branching out this time.  Any ideas? Black usually looks good on me with my somewhat dark complexion (The photo you see is not accurate at all. My computer screen is super bright so it makes me look way whiter than I am), but I also might look good in Navy.

what time is the wedding? grey is better for daytime.

also, consider having the suit you already own tailored. a well tailored suit can make you look like a million bucks.

Cannot go wrong with black. Maybe dress it up by making it a three piece, get a pocket square, suspenders.

It will be at night, and it's inside since it's a Catholic wedding.

That wouldn't matter. Trust me, this suit is made for a guy twice my size (I weigh 110). I completely contested getting it because the shirt is so baggy and if I don't have a belt on the pants, they have probably three or four inches of space and so they fall down with no trouble at all. My parents got it for me because they are naive as to think I'm going to be 5'11" one day.

Is the wedding Black tie or Causal?

In Kansas, we don't make distinctions like that. You simply come with what you have on hand. Whether that's a tux or khaki pants, anything goes, really.

My recommendation is that you won't go wrong with a black suit...HOWEVER, you are going to grow most likely a good bit in the next couple years so spending money on a suit you probably won't wear too often might be a poor investment. I would recommend the old Kahkis and Navy Blazer combination. If you are heading to Wichita or a larger city I would recommend get something in a European or Slim cut. It will look better on you with your frame.

I definitely agree with Padre on not going out and buying a full, nice suit until you've completely stopped growing (I didn't get my nice suits until my freshmen year in college).

However, as a personal preference, I'd suggest a tweed jacket/blazer. I've never been much for the navy, it just looks too prep school for my taste.

Ultimately, it's your call, and it's what YOU think you look the best in. Maybe that's the navy, but maybe it's not. Either way, a nice pair of khaki slacks will serve you quite handily.

I like tweed jacket as well, but for what were mostly likely to have in KS it will probably be a little bit too dressed down IMHO. I do also agree FP it is your choice you're still a teen so you can get away with wearing stuff I can't

Well, the khakis might be nice, but I really want to look good and impressive for when I have dinner with Kate, especially since she'll be in a dress.

Personally, I avoid wearing khakis with ties. I would prefer to ever so slightly dress down a pair of khakis, and I prefer to dress up the tie. Either with a vest at the minimum, or preferably with a matched suit.

For khakis, again for me specifically, I would pick a more casual blazer or sport coat, but I would probably forego the tie.

If I am wearing a tie, I usually pair it with a suit, but if I want to go slightly more casual I will do a good pair of business-casual slacks with a sweater or sweater vest. I suppose there is some overlap between my preferences, but at the same time I do not have unlimited resources to try out all possible styles, so I have to make a few judgement calls based on what appeals to me.

Quid Est Veritas?

This suit is nice. Even though a light color is not always the done thing for the evening, since it's summer, you might be able to get away with it. I really like the idea of taupe colored trousers (pleated, not plain front. Yes, I know plain front is more fashionable, but pleated is dressier and much more mature and you won't look underweight if they're made right.), a navy blue blazer (double breasted with shiny buttons), and an ecru shirt. Whether you wear a tie is up to your discretion. If you do, I would suggest a strong but summery color like green, possibly with red accents in it. If you are extremely bold and daring, a cravat could look quite nice.
Here are some examples of "nice clothes".
