Summer Suit

My son is being baptized this Saturday.  I don't know what belt and tie to wear with this summer suit. Any suggestions?

Match your shoes, I lean brown for Spring and Summer.

A Summer Suit is a lighter fabric usually a linen or linen blend, lighter in color is usual as well. A Seersucker is another kind of fabric for Suits between Memorial Day and Labor Day.

I believe the Memorial Day and Labor Day rule is no longer in effect. There are no longer any faux pas in fashion. EVERYTHING must be accepted.

There are still rules, more so in Men's fashion than women's. Shoes and belts should match, white Shoe/ seersucker rule still applies ( mainly because you wear white she's with seersucker)...Spring and Summer Colognes should be lighter and sweeter in scent, Fall and Winter heavier spicier scents...

Can I just say, "YES FINALLY A MEN'S FASHION THREAD!"

Nah women have rules, but our fashion is like jazz. The best artists know all the rules so they can break them intentionally.  Bag and shoes no longer have to match, but they should coordinate. Stuff like that. It's just that you no longer get shamed for breaking the rules. :)

If you feel like going a bit crazy I'd go with a pastel tie, like a light blue or even pink or stripey, and then a darker belt and shoes.

Well that is true for Men's fashion too, but if you need help deciding on the belt it's bet to stick with the rules :)

Personally I'd go with a brown belt, brown shoes, and a grey tie. I'm not fond of wearing pastel colors during any season. Black shoes with a brown belt and grey suit would just stick out like a sore thumb.

You need to match the shoes and belt, but the tie color matters only insofar as it can't clash with the whole outfit.

If you're at a loss, go on www.brooksbrothers.com (limited selection right now) and see their models or www.josabank.com (better current selection) and see their models for what is considered acceptable.

If you don't like either of these approaches I'll send you to several different fashion blogs that my friends have pointed out to me that can be of service. I think the new basic rule for white is that when it is warm enough for summer suits you may wear them. Therefore, in the spring if it is in the 80s or 90s, feel free, but you'll look silly if it's in the 60s or 70s.

Hope this helps some.

PS, I'm writing this response in a tan summer suit. I'm not kidding.
