If the bishop makes an exception, can a priest ever be a pall bearer under special circumstances (if he's not celebrating the funeral Mass, of course). Thank you so much. cappie Posted April 11, 2013 Share Posted April 11, 2013 In Australia (where I live) I have been to priests' funerals where priests have been pall bearers, I don't think there is anything against it. In our Order (Capuchins) it is a common practice for our own friars. So you could conclude it's OK unless the bishop says otherwise. There is a traditional principle of English Law, which was still always expressed in Latin until a few years ago: De minimis non curat lex.
