I love 'em.

Do you? Any favorites? Creative holders? Uses?

This is the official thread for grocery store religious candles.

I like this one because it reminds me that even though we make huge mistakes, Jesus still loves us.

I've never actually bought one. If I were to buy a candle, it would probably be from a Catholic bookstore rather than a Walmart (Which is where I've found them).

Same here.

Btw, does anyone know why St. Jude is so popular in Mexico? I went down there for a mission trip recently and after Jesus and Mary I probably saw more St. Jude pictures, statues, and icons than any other saint. He's always featured in these grocery store/Walmart candles too. Is he a patron saint of Mexico?

Because I've been to Mexico and, from what I've seen, the government there is a lost cause.

I'm a bit leary of them ... because at times they can have a Santeria or a non-Catholic prayer associated with them.  So ... buyer beware.  If you can't read carefully what the prayer says go find someone who can; and you can't necesarily assume that because it has a Catholic saint as a picture that it is indeed Catholic.

Case in point ... I would never buy a candle at a Botanica.  Just saying.

I don't buy them because for the low price of $1.59, I'm not exactly sure what I'm burning and therefore breathing.

It's like when you a go in a bodega and see a statue of St. Barbara surrounded by candles and red Rosaries... is it a devotion to St. Barbara, or the santero/yoruba diety Chango?

hmmm.
