Slappo
That is so OCD. Did you find it? Let us know. There's no 2010 or 2009 general ledger. The last full general ledger that I have a copy of is from 2006, and I don't think I can backtrack that far with trusting the paper records. not to mention it would take tons of man hours for basically OCD volunteer work to find what is at best bet a mistake. Even if I did find soemthing sketchy I'd have a super hard time proving anything or doing anything with it. I think at most all I'll do is review the 2010 statements and check copies to see if anything looks sketch. Otherwise I'm starting my accounting based on the Jan 1, 2013 beginning balance. Everything has been paper files with possibly an electronic excel spreadsheet for a general ledger. I've switched our accounting system to Quickbooks. Not only is it much easier to use, but it tracks everything much better, and makes reconciling bank statements, recorded deposits, and recorded checks issued much easier. That and I can keep track of if someone doesn't cash a check I wrote. No reconciliations were done in the past, and checks were not tracked to ensure they were actually cashed. I don't understand how you run books that way...? How can you not compare what is actually happening at your bank to what you have issued as income and expenses? How can you fail to see that your bank statement is several thousand dollars off of what your hand kept records show?
