Dusty Fro
If a Catholic does not confess his sins when the priest says "Let us call to mind our sins" he wouldn't be fit to receive, right? Would he then have to choose to stay put during communion? Also, would this be considered a rebellion against God, or obedience to not partake when they haven't confessed their sins? Pontifex
When the priest invites everyone to "call to mind their sins" (penitential rite) it is important to remember that this is not a formal sacramental confession. If one is in a state of mortal sin, the penitential rite will not absolve them of sin. Individual confession is needed. The penitential rite is a corporate acknowledgement of our sinfulness, not an opportunity to be absolved of grave sin. Fr. Pontifex
