the171
I've actually had a really good experience with 8, and I am no techie.
Ice_nine
8 is alright. Better than vista that's for damn sure.
Brother Adam
From what I have heard from my tech salesman colleagues, Windows 8 is at its best as a tablet OS. Which would imply that you may prefer 7 for a home computer or laptop. That has been my experience with it too. Windows 8 seems to exist merely so there can be a Windows 8 and they have something to sell.
the171
I actually had more problems with Windows 7, but once again, I am no techie.

Papist
My thought is why doesn't Microsoft release a version of Windows that is stable enough to last longer than my PC?
ToJesusMyHeart
My thought is why doesn't Microsoft release a version of Windows that is stable enough to last longer than my PC? "A helicopter was flying around above Seattle when an electrical malfunction disabled all of the aircraft's electronic navigation and communications equipment. Due to the clouds and haze, the pilot could not determine the helicopter's position. The pilot saw a tall building, flew toward it, circled, and held up a handwritten sign that said "WHERE AM I?" in large letters. People in the tall building quickly responded to the aircraft, drew a large sign, and held it in a building window. Their sign said "YOU ARE IN A HELICOPTER." The pilot smiled, waved, looked at his map, determined the course to steer to SEATAC airport, and landed safely. After they were on the ground, the copilot asked the pilot how he had done it. "I knew it had to be the Microsoft Building, because they gave me a technically correct but completely useless answer."
Nihil Obstat
That has been my experience with it too. Windows 8 seems to exist merely so there can be a Windows 8 and they have something to sell. Well I mean, from what I hear it is actually quite cool as a tablet OS, and the direction Microsoft is going with the tablet market is hopefully going to have a pretty big effect on business users, which is great. Just does not really help the PC users much.
Spem in alium
I recently was given a new computer with Windows 8. It was doing well at driving me insane for the first little while, but now I find it quite easy and nice to use. Can definitely see how it would work better with a tablet though. Apparently (and this is second-hand, because I have not used it), the way the app launch screen is set up, you can access apps without first loading the desktop, so for a tablet user you can really save your RAM by activating the app alone (for instance Excel) without first going through the desktop and all the processes related to that.
