I think y'all watched too much TV. What the heck are summer reruns?

I don't actually watch much TV anymore. I download Grimm and a couple other shows, but I gave up watching TV itself because it was not cost effective (hundreds of channels of reality shows). I like old TV. I like when the broadcast networks were still big, i.e., when they used to get a combined audience rating of about 80 or 90 percent. Those days are long gone.

Hence, "watched".  Me too. I rarely watch TV. When I do, it is sports. We netflix.  And tasks around the house keeps away from the TV.

I completely agree...

Btw, when you posted the '77 ABC one, I went to youtube and watched others. I noticed that YOU were the one posting them there. Thank you! They're great!

Thanks. I have two youtube channels, and the newest channel is dedicated to the memory of my mom, who really loved these old promos. She said watching them reminded her of the good ole days. The days when you could watch TV with your kids and not see anything morally objectionable.

Here is NBC's promo for 1978.

The problem for NBC that year is that no one really NB saw them.

Holy cow! Did any of those shows listed last an entire season?? NBC had some good dramas in the 70s, but comedies were not their friend.

Another thing I miss: Battle of the Network Stars. I loved that show. To me, as a kid, it was fun to see the actors outside their tv rolls (especially the "period" shows-- Little House on the Prairie and Happy Days) and watch them compete in events that they were not really that good at. Who doesn't like watching Telly Savalas' team try to beat Gabe Kaplan's at tug-of-war? It would never work today. For one, there are too many reality shows and the "stars" of them are so over-exposed that no one wants to see them.

I remember watching the Battle of the Network Stars. It was fun because the stars actually took it seriously, and by that I mean that they tried to win for their network.

The only show that was listed in the promo that had any success was Centennial, but it was planned as a 12 part miniseries, and so it could not rescue NBC's dismal schedule.

Kristy McNichol was good at that obstacle course.

I forgot that NBC put on one of the worst mid-season replacement shows in the 1978-79 season. Supertrain. It was horrible, but it lasted 9 episodes. The show is famous for being the most expensive program made for US network television up to that time.

Supertrain, as you can see from these cheesy opening credits, was the Love Boat on land. Interestingly it was supposed to be a bullet train, but based upon the information provided by the producers about how long it took to go on the Supertrain from New York to Los Angeles it was actually slower than existing Amtrak trains of the late 1970s.
