April Fool's Day?

Maybe this should have gone elsewhere, but it's a legitimate question: Do they ever do April Fool's Day pranks in the convent? To be honest, I can see the two sisters I know pulling pranks.

Yes.

I'll tell the Nashville Doms story next time that Sr. PM and Sr. JT told me.

I wasn't the typical postulant.  I sure did do a prank at the postulant assistant director.  Had help too from the other postulant and two novices. :)

Put it this way ... a morning wakeup bell that should have gone "ding, ding" went "clack-clack-clack" very softly against some hidden cloths.

Okay so this one time, they had some new postulants just enter recently, and they decided to play a joke on the Mother Superior. So the Sisters got some new postulants together and decided on their prank. Now, I'm not sure who all has been to the Motherhouse, but this community has a rich heritage, and they have a lot of history in their Motherhouse. Anyway, so they had this old dumbwaiter in it that isn't used any longer (Dumbwaiters are small freight elevators (or lifts) intended to carry objects rather than people). So they were going to pretend that a postulant was playing hide and seek and hid inside the dumbwaiter, but got stuck and hurt her ankle and couldn't get out!

So they made a dummy. Apparently, the janitor had a dummy lying around for them to us (weird, right?) so they dressed the dummy in the postulant outfit and stuck the dummy in the dumbwaiter. Now, some Sisters went up to the floor where the dummy was "trapped" in the dumbwaiter, and other Sisters stayed at the ground level floor where the dumbwaiter deposited its contents. At the ideal time, one of the Sisters found Mother and started chatting with her as they walked toward the dumwaiter on the ground level. The plan was, once Mother and the talking Sister got near enough to the dumwaiter, the Sisters on the top floor of the convent would start wailing into the dumbwaiter, "Oooooh, my ankle! My ankle! Help! Help! I'm stuck inside the dumbwaiter and I'm hurt! Help!"

So Mother and talking Sister were getting near the place, and the top floor Sisters started wailing into the dumbwaiter so that the sound traveled down the dumbwaiter and into the parlor where Mother was standing and chatting. Unfortunately, the stunt didn't go exactly according to plan because Mother didn't hear the wailing coming from the dumbwaiter. So talking Sister had to point it out, "Mother, do you hear that? It sounds like it's coming from the dumbwaiter!" And Mother was like, "Don't be silly Sister, no sounds are coming from the dumbwaiter, we haven't used that thing in years!" So then, since Mother was being too wise, another Sister had to run down the stairs and down into the parlor, and excalim, "MOTHER! COME QUICK! One of the postulants is stuck inside the dumbwaiter! Her ankle is hurt and she can't escape!!!"

So then Mother is all like................  :shocking:  and starts sprinting up the stairs. Then when she gets to the top where the dumbwaiter is, she sees all the Sisters howling with laughter and pointing at the leg of the dummy, dressed in the postulant outfit, hanging out of the dumbwaiter. Mother doesn't understand that it's a dummy's leg, and thinks it's a real postulant leg, so she runs over to the dumbwaiter and opens it and grabs the dummy leg and realizes they the Sisters just pulled a huge prank on her. Mother was at first not pleased, because her heart was racing so fast and she was super worried that a postulant really got hurt, but after a little while she laughed right along with everyone at the prank, thankful it was only a prank. :)

The end!

Once, there was a seminarian visiting the LSP's novitiate who HATED snakes. So the novices, (including my sister), decided to put a really realistic fake snake in his car to scare him. They didn't actually think it would work, but when he got in his car, they said he screamed and ran out of his car into the novitiate! Idk, maybe they were exaggerating, but I thought it was funny :hehe:

Maybe it's just me, but I think it's a bit cruel (not to mention possibly dangerous - what if he hadn't noticed the snake until he'd been driving?) to pull a prank like that on someone who has a real fear of something. There is a boundary between being funny and being nasty.

As I said, they didn't think he was going to react that way. And I'm sure they weren't trying to be cruel. They're novices after all :)
