Well not almost, and no real fire actually started but ALOT of foot stomping had to happen to put put the hot coals that fell from the thurible. One more reason NOT to have carpet in Churches.

Yes...is Holy water the best option to put out a fire caused by blessed coals? Maybe I should ask a Scholar...:)

Carpet in churches is very nice for the acoustics.

I'd have to disagree on that one..... hehe... of course I'm coming from the point of view of the music... not too interested in hearing the homily haha... they are usually boring. THat is why IAABC ;) Well except where I go to mass on Sunday, the priest is avvesome... and there they have carpet in that church.

Yeah so since lent is over, I am here to just ramble on and make up for all the posts I didn't make during lent :D

You can have nice reverb and clarity at the same time, it is actually possible, especially with modern PA systems. The carpeting is really just to remove one (or a portion of one) sound reflective surface, and really only high freq anyway. Carpet will do almost nothing to deaden low-freq reverb. A church with a typical long and tall nave will have a great plenty of reverb, especially if the choir is placed in a loft at the back of the nave.

I was given a candle this morning for Mass. So, fortunately I'm not banned from everything that burns.

Nihil Obstat

I almost set my wedding veil on fire at my wedding. Oops.

My mom did set hers on fire. :hehe: My uncle had to literally jump across the table to pull it off her head.

My confessor nearly burned down himself at Easter Vigil 4 years ago when I came into the church.  He dropped the extra long match used to light the Paschal Candle in the fire and bent over to try and carefully retrieve it and the wind gusts kept blowing the flames uncomfortably close to his billowing vestments. :|

I did burn a hole in it-- but I whipped my head away so fast it didn't catch... which was good. Polyester, hair spray and open flames are not a good combo.
