Amppax
I'd forgotten CatharineM had left. Sad day. I remember that thread though. And Evang is banned forever or a short time? I'd hope its not forever, I liked him.
Nihil Obstat
I'd forgotten CatharineM had left. Sad day. I remember that thread though. And Evang is banned forever or a short time? I'd hope its not forever, I liked him. He was IP banned. Of course that does not mean he will not be back. It simply means that the mods and admins have told him never to come back. Lol. These days, given the technology we have access to, there really is not a reliable way to permanently ban someone from a public forum, as much as one may try. I could be posting from a dozen other accounts right now, and none of them would be traceable back to me.

It's obviously not unheard of, but it's more work than I'd put in trolling a forum.

However it easy so as to not even be worth mentioning to bypass an IP ban.

franciscanheart
He was IP banned. You don't know that. Errr, rather, there's no way for you to confirm that for sure. You aren't a mod so you don't have access to people's warn logs. Moderators are the only people who would know one way or the other what happened with a certain member. That aside, I think it's kind of tacky for you to be talking about a previous member and the action taken in that case -- regardless of what information you have or how correct it is / you think it is. Another thing: mods aren't stupid. You think we've never used a proxy?
Tony
Funny story. several years ago phatmass had a big spam problem. So as a joke, I made another account, something like "GetYourFreeRosary". I posted something that looked VERY similar to those spam posts, with links to various sites giving out free rosaries. Well it got IP banned, lol. and I had to AIM Cmom to explain what happened to unblock the ban :D (so I guess I do have a little bit of insight on what mods do ;) )
AnneLine
Huh... yup those IP addresses can help us be more honest than we might be.... but of course, that does give a bit of an advantage to the more tech-savvy people who want to make life difficult for mods. I'm not one of them, so I need to behave myself. :brutebeast: Well.... humm... I certainly didn't much care for Evang's behavior toward the end, but I was very happy when he returned to the Church, and I continue to pray for him & wish him well... but I try to do that with all people. Sometimes I succeed..... And I found myself praying about the whole thing with CatherineM during the Holy Thursday liturgy tonight... and praying for her and for all of us. Made me think about how Jesus must have felt with the disciples. So hard to be loving, sometimes.... I realized that I too had my share in not supporting Catherine. I realized that I took the easy route of staying silent when one should speak. I didn't agree with all she was saying, but I could tell she was hurting. And I could have done more to let her know I heard her hurt. I could have PMed her right then.... and I didn't because I was afraid. Lots of things I could have done. And didn't. Thank you, Nihil, for this: Threads like this act as a good reminder for us. Everyone here is our brother or sister, and whenever we do not treat each other with the good will, respect, and charity we deserve, there is someone else on the other end who is hurt by our failures. We hurt each other too often. And I love all of you.... and hope I will always let you know that. Let us pray for each other.... Tony
Multiple accounts on a website=bad idea. heh, yeah, I figured since most of the real spams were for viagra, illegal downloads, online casinos, etc, a rosary one would go over better

I am not particularly invested. Of course you know what proxies are. You would not be competent if you were not familiar with how proxy servers and VPNs function. :)
