ContemporaryCaflicCrusader
Some of you know I have been Youth ministering with my local parish since 09. I got a confirmation candidate right now and this kid looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooves baseaball. Especially the Boston Red Sox and Dustin Pedroia. A little history on our relationship before I get into this story: Once upon a time I was this kid's age (Underclassmen in High School) and was scary much like this kid is now. You know the awkward Catholic homeschooled jock who liked his star wars and such. Only I wasn't that socially awkward and I reeeeeeeeally wanted a fantasy baseball team. My folks said no. Years later I graduated and my parents said I could partake in the right league. Well the local Knights of Columbus started a league only to have it fall on its face, but we had paid 20 dollars already (The only year we had to pay for it) so I started my own league and my dad, my friend T.J. and I each had two teams to make a six team league. This league is loaded with stats and not for the faint of heart: Just because you've survived a fantasy football season and didn't come in last doesn't mean squat. Fantasy baseball in general takes more time. Fantasy football can be as little a 1 checkup a week and fantasy baseball should really be 2 a day. And with more stats it makes things more difficult. So fast forward spring 2012 where we like never before were desperate for fantasy baseball owners and as commish I am really a puppet to the regulars of the league, my dad, my grandfather, and Uncle Simon so Dad says we need to get up to 8 owners. ASK ANYBODY!!!!!!!!!!!! It was getting ridiculous. Like a bad sitcom. I am racking my brains for anybody at work I ever heard say they had positive memories of tee ball... and then it hit me... That annoying homeschooled kid who never stops talking about baseball and baseball video games and star wars and really looks up to me. Maybe he could play!? I asked him and now I can never, ever get him to shut up. His mom said no to that years season, but next year if enough of his school work was done, he could play. Around Christmas his mom said she couldn't imagine him having enough school work done. And owner searching season came (Just after the Super Bowl) where I promised him he would have a spot in the league if his mom green lit it, but my dad said we had better options and she never officially green lit or red lit him. So when I came to the YM meeting and said, "Hey, The fantasy draft was awesome this season!" He was very close to tears. I felt sick to my stomach. I said there might/probably be openings next year. After all my Grandfather won't live too, too much longer and I guess I touched on a nerve. There Grandfather had just died like that week. So now I just want to crawl in a hole and die. So another hope he had is we would be running this Inter faith softball league team in the area, which I was gonna make phone calls for I kept telling him and kept not doing. Just the other day I found some old paperwork saying... He just misses the deadline... Too young... All his friends can play... Gaaaaaa. This kid should be determined to hate me. I am the worst confirmation sponser everrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr... But today the name Kevin was said in the church office when I was clocked in there. That was the name of one of the guys "I was gonna call." And I blurted out to the secretary this situation. We actually have a decent chance of having a team and they lowered the league age minimum, The obstacles are few and smallish... It looks like guilt might make me a softball coach and yes I can do it. God will be done. Prayers are appreciated.

Gabriela
That is WAY too long to read, especially without paragraph breaks. But guilt is a GREAT reason to become a softball coach. So good for you!
