Pope Francis Supports Civil Unions?

Seriously? Can we even trust this? Can someone please explain Francis's position?

I didn't really read the whole article. But if I remember correctly, it was looking like gay marriage was going to pass easily and the Church's standpoint of no gay marriage was being ignored. So in a last ditch effort he made a pitch for civil unions as being the lessor of two evils.

I don't see what would be so wrong if he did actually say those things. He's saying that no-way-no-how will the Church ever sanction gay marriage, but the government can do whatever it wants with its secular authority to grant civil unions because the Sacrament of Marriage and secular civil unions are not the same thing.

I don't see what would be so wrong if he did actually say those things. Every day, I seem to find more and more that the old accusations that the Vatican requires us to impose religious law on secular society are actually true. Especially when it makes claims like, "As experience has shown, the absence of sexual complementarity in these unions creates obstacles in the normal development of children who would be placed in the care of such persons" -   nbvnnnnnnnnnnnnn,m

EDIT: (Keyboard issue). If one of my Composition students used this arguments, I'd have to mark with something like, "Claims about experience need to be backed up with evidence."
