Mickey's_Girl
I have a question. Say a person joins the Catholic church (or moves from another parish). Is there a rule that says you have to go to the church that is nearest you? Or can you go to a different one across town? I think this is kind of a dumb question, but I'm dying to know. I think somewhere I picked up the idea that you have to go to the one nearest you. But I'm not sure. Thanks! MG
Pontifex
Well, it used to be an understood reality that if you moved to a particular area there was a parish assigned for that area. But since transportation is so advanced and everyone has access to that people do not really adhere to that rule anymore, unfortunately. I think the main thing is that you pick a parish and commit to that community. It makes more sense that it is one where you live. Those that jump from parish to parish are missing the Graces that come from struggling through tough times. We cannot just jump around to the most entertaining parish. Peace, Fr.
