Anyone make them for Good Friday? I was thinking of doing it this year, but don't have a recipe. A family friend used to make them for us every Good Friday growing up.

We buy them occasionally. I am not a big fan of store-bought ones. I am sure that homemade buns are much better.

I do! They are yum. :) It's a cinnamon roll recipe but not rolled up like cinnamon rolls and topped with the same icing in the shape of a cross. :like:

My mother makes them every year. I don't like cinnamon rolls (I'm not a fan of cinnamon at all), but I like the one ones she does because they have little or no cinnamon at all, and there is no icing on it. Just make sure you don't forget that it's a day of fasting. ;)

Growing up we always had them as part of the meal, to cover the fasting (like, instead of having biscuits or dinner rolls with our soup, we'd have this). But personally, because I am nursing a baby and have health issues, I'm exempt. ;)

Funny, I've never even thought of making hot cross buns myself.

But, I should have--I love them so much that I wish they were available all year.

And, one very odd thing is that, even though I have lived in Chicago for a long time, I have never found a bakery that makes GREAT hot cross buns. I found one bakery that made acceptable ones, but most hot cross buns I've found here in Chicago are truly lame.

My sister is pregnant, and every day of fasting she likes to call and remind me that she is exempt and can eat all she wants. <_<

I've never made them but I'd like to try them.  I'd have to make the gluten-free version, of course.  There are quite a few recipes online.  :)

My wife makes them, but probably not this year.

I think she probably has a good excuse.
