Basilisa Marie
Did you really expect any other answer than "yes, go to mass" from this forum? :) Unless you are sick, are taking care of sick people, or something very similar, or miss all the local masstimes on accident, you get your butt to mass. Tony
Did you really expect any other answer than "yes, go to mass" from this forum? :) Believe it or not, I asked pretty much the same thing in a catholic chat room about 10 years ago and was told I should try to sleep. Nihil Obstat
IMO it is usually a pretty simple decision whether or not to go to Mass. It is an important decision, to be sure, because of the positive obligation to attend Mass, but it is nonetheless simple.
Slappo
I dunno if everyone posting in this thread realizes it, but the dangerous of driving when severely sleep deprived are akin to the dangers of driving while severely intoxicated. If someone is severely sleep deprived and drives a long distance to mass, then they may have committed sins against their fellow neighbor by putting many others at risk of a car accident caused by driving under sleep deprivation. It isn't such a black and white decision of "suck it up go to mass" especially when the drive is 30 minutes each way. You'll have to weigh driving to mass while sleep deprived versus not attending mass to avoid the possibility of causing others and yourself harm. Merely being "too tired to go" or "too tired to pay attention" wouldn't be sufficient reason to skip, but the dangers of having to operate a vehicle under horrible physiological conditions changes the circumstances. No one on this forum can really give a straight forward answer because they don't know how cognizant you are under your current sleeping conditions or how well you would be able to drive. If you decided not to go to mass and have any doubt that not making it to mass was through your own fault (I.E sleep deprivation was self caused) then I'd mention it at your next confession. You'll really have to weigh the schedule conflict. Today is a day of rest and God is the primary focus today (even more so then week days). Skipping mass to attend to another scheduled event would be a poor decision unless that other event was something like a job that you might get fired for not attending. Slappo
Other options would be taking a taxi to mass, public transportation, calling your priest to ask for a dispensation, or seeing if another parishioner could give you a ride.

It is a decision that rests very much on one's own conscience.
Anastasia13
-Another parishoner: too late or don't know anyone because it wouldn't be at my parish. -Also too late to attend my parish any other way. -Dispensation is not an issue: spoke with priest about that a while ago. Wanted to do the godly thing anyway and hoped to go. -My state of brain: at 11:30 laughed at what I typed at 9:30 on another site telling someone to get godparents and get baptized and not be afraid of the ceremony if becoming Catholic is what they really wanted. Although my general quantitative reasoning skills are slightly diminished, my overall reasoning abilities leave me far more cogent than before. -The purpose of this thread was decision-making analytics. I recognize that I am very bad at certain forms of reasoning when fatigued or in the middle of the night. I recognize this: usually about three hours after I wish I did, but I recognize it none-the-less. Sometimes other people are a little more logical in such situations. (Thank you very much.) -Schedule conflict: Basically came down to sleep and work. Edited March 24, 2013 by Light and Truth

Anastasia13
so he dispensed you? We talked about certain things in the past. I know his general policy for me. He also my distance and certain details that I don't want to get into much here. Thanks for the feedback, y'all. Tony
Since you have mentioned you traditionally taken terrible care of yourself in sleep, maybe you can make that a priority during Holy week. (and beyond)
