Apotheoun
Only at homosexual weddings. The new archbishop is for it. I clearly do not agree with the Anglican Communion on things where it diverges from the ancient faith, but I believe the new archbishop is opposed to gay marriage. Here is an article from the Guardian: Archbishop of Canterbury admits to gay 'challenge' for church Ahead of enthronement Justin Welby says he backs church opposition to same-sex marriage but is 'clear about homophobia'. The new archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, has highlighted the challenge faced by the Anglican church over gay relationships ahead of his enthronement on Thursday, saying he has friends who are in long-term gay relationships of "stunning" success. The 105th archbishop of Canterbury and leader of the worldwide Anglican community, who will become the first holder of the office to be enthroned by a woman at the afternoon ceremony, has written to Peter Tatchell offering to discuss his attitude to gay marriage after the veteran campaigner criticised it in an open letter. In a pre-enthronement interview with the BBC, Welby said that while he did not have doubts about the church's policy in opposing same-sex marriages he remained "challenged as to how we respond to it". "You see gay relationships that are just stunning in the quality of the relationship," the 57-year-old said, adding that he had "particular friends where I recognise that and am deeply challenged by it". "The Church of England holds very firmly, and continues to hold to the view, that marriage is a lifelong union of one man to one woman. At the same time, at the heart of our understanding of what it is to be human, is the essential dignity of the human being. And so we have to be very clear about homophobia." IgnatiusofLoyola
Personally I think he is wearing one of the ugliest mistress I've seen... Huh? You mean his robes? I read somewhere that the new Archbishop's robes were given to him as a gift. If he didn't like them (and I don't know one way or another whether he likes them or not) he can't really say, "Sorry, I can't wear these, they are ugly." He could do what Pope Francis just did with the icon given to him by Metropolitan Hilarion, and give a gift given to him to someone else (in Pope Francis' case Pope Benedict). Edited March 23, 2013 by Apotheoun
IgnatiusofLoyola
Note to make my views more clear: Although I list my religion in my Phatmass profile as "Anglican" that does not mean that I agree with all of the actions of the Anglican church. In fact, I do not belong to any Anglican parish, and have not for many years.

I admit, I did do a double-take at the picture of Pope Francis and Pope Emeritus Benedict together. (Is that the right way to describe Pope Benedict?) It seemed odd to see two Popes. However, I suspect we'll get used to it--and I doubt we will see pictures of them together very often. However, from the reports here on Phatmass, it seems that many Catholic parishes have now moved beyond the bad guitar music of earlier times. (Note: I have nothing against guitars--I love guitars. It's BAD guitar music that I don't enjoy. And, I am more of a traditionalist when it comes to music in church.) :joecool: Edited March 23, 2013 by IgnatiusofLoyola

The tide is slowly turning, I think, but as you probably know the Church moves quite slowly. :P

EmilyAnn
To the great surprise of precisely nobody. Only at homosexual weddings. The new archbishop is for it. My understanding is that the new Archbishop has said that he is willing to "revisit" the current view of the Anglican church that prohibits homosexual weddings. Not quite the same as being "for it." But the other replies are funnier, if that is what is important here. Whatever the new Archbishops position, the government has been quite clear that the Anglican church will be specifically prohibited from performing homosexual "weddings" when their new laws are sadly enforced. Other religious groups have the choice to "opt in" but the Anglican church is banned from doing so.
PhuturePriest
Wouldn't giving the gift to Pope Emeritus Benedict hurt the feelings of the Orthodox Bishop that gave him the gift?
