Pope Francis congratulates new Archbishop of Canterbury on his enthronement

Pope Francis has written to the Archbishop of Canterbury, the Most Rev Justin Welby, to congratulate him on his enthronement today.

In a message to the new principal leader of the Church of England and head of the worldwide Anglican Communion, Pope Francis wrote: “I thank you for the kind words contained in your message to me at my election, and I wish in turn to offer my greetings and best wishes on the occasion of your enthronement at Canterbury Cathedral.”

The Pope’s message continued: “The pastoral ministry is a call to walk in fidelity to the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. Please be assured of my prayers as you take up your new responsibilities, and I ask you to pray for me as I respond to the new call that the Lord has addressed to me.

“I look forward to meeting you in the near future, and to continuing the warm fraternal relations that our predecessors enjoyed.”

Why are some church leaders so obsessed with drums?

They want to be relevant, and evidently to some people drums equal relevance.  :paco:

Obviously, they are clearly not up to the times. A turntable and a Macbook would have been more suitable for displaying relevance.

Don't these fools know drums are thousands of years old? That doesn't strike me as "new" and "relevant".

I am sure in the Anglican church that is coming soon.

Only at homosexual weddings.

The new archbishop is for it.

To the great surprise of precisely nobody.

I doubt that the drums were included to be "relevant," but instead to recognize the large number of Anglicans in Africa.

I sincerely hope that this thread was not posted in order to make fun of the Anglicans. Whether or not you agree with their some of their views, they are still your Christian brothers and sisters, and you will be sharing heaven with Anglicans.

It was intended as an informative thread, which like most other threads here ends up with humor in it.

My understanding is that the new Archbishop has said that he is willing to "revisit" the current view of the Anglican church that prohibits homosexual weddings. Not quite the same as being "for it."

But the other replies are funnier, if that is what is important here.

That is what I had hoped was the purpose of the thread.

To be honest, I do not think the Church of England has serious intentions to hold firm on any of their official beliefs. I think that they and the rest of the Anglican Communion, with the possible exception of the Africans, consider everything to be up for debate and potentially revisable.
